FWIW: I know some really nice Midwesterners. I know some really nice Northeasterners. Even a few nice native Floridians. It's good to shed light. It's beneficial to offer people honest facts. But hyperbole does not help anyone. |

Here's to owning property and still having money left-over! Here's to enjoying 4 seasons! Here's to new opportunities in new places!
I hope to one day soon have as solid a plan to leave as some of you already do. My townhome is going up for sale and I know that I'm leaving FL within a year. My husband and I both feel that if we stay in FL, at best we'll maintain what we have, but there is also the possibility of losing money due to rising costs and stagnant incomes. We don't know where we're going, Colorado, maybe Pennsylvania, but somewhere different and growing for sure. |

Depending on where you are in Florida, selling your townhome might be a challenge. There are so many for sale that if you want to sell, you'll almost have to sell with a lower price. Developers are giving away so much to buy their products that it is very difficult to compete with them.
Both states have good football teams but both have economies that struggle in different parts of the State. And it snows in both places! Just be sure to do your research so you are happy after the move! Good luck! |

Other places may have problems but NOTHING is worth S. Florida problems. Unless you are a multi-millionaire who lives there a few months out of the year- it is not worth it. sunny |

If I had money, I would relocate out of Florida, and probably somewhere on the US Canadian Border. West. I'd avoid seattle per se, but maybe Vancouver WA would be nice. Maine would be nice!
I would want to be OUT of hurricane alley and out of torndao alley and away from earthquake zones! |

I have lived here in Miami all my life and I'm ready to get out. I am applying to several different Grad schools in VA, TN, GA, Il, and NoFLA. I would love to end up in Johnson City, TN at ETSU. Might be in Richmond or Hampton, VA, or Athens, GA, though. But I'm definately getting out of here. Gimme 8 months and I'm gone.

Nevada, Colorado, Arizona and New Mexico.
Pity those of you who can not stand hearing Spanish spoken or the fact that South Florida does examplify a diverse culture which happens to be from Latin America. Our country is changing and that change is taking place everywhere. There is really no escape. For those of us who came from Germany or Ireland, Italy, Russia, Vietnam to name a few, remember - we all came from somewhere else. Good luck to all of you. |

We haven't decided yet where to move to, but we are looking at Colorado. We are looking for seasons and all that comes with changing seasons.

I'm moving from Boca Raton to Charlotte, NC this summer - primarily because I work for a company that is headquartered there, and being in Charlotte will provide me with the best opportunities to advance my career.
But there are other factors that influenced my decision. A major one is that it has become outrageously expensive to live in South Florida. Prices are beginning to level off, but still, it's difficult to afford. You can get so much more house for your money in Charlotte, and pay far less in taxes and homeowner's insurance. Moreover, public schools are much better there and generally people are more friendly - all in all it's a better place to raise a family. Not to mention that there three Fortune 100 companies headquartered in Charlotte - that's pretty good for a growing city. If you're in a white-collar profession, this is important. I moved here in 1995 when I was still in college primarily because of the weather. I grew up in upstate NY and was getting tired of the winters - but now, I kind of miss having 4 seasons. South Florida has changed quite a bit in the last 12 years. Unfortunately, I don't think it has changed for the better. Granted, different strokes for different folks - but if you are a young professional starting a family, South Florida is not the best place in the country to be (at least in my opinion) - although I will undoubtedly miss the beaches and the warm winters. |
