In addition to the above article, regarding Adams Homes: My husband forgot to include that Adams Homes also constucted this home, with a lightswitch in the middle wall of the laundry room, making it impossible to turn on the light, until you have stumbled into everything in the room beforehand! This occurs whether you are going into the laundry room from the house or the garage! In every home we have seen constucted before, the light switch is always at the entrance to every room on the adjoining wall, not in the middle of the room, where one must stumble in the dark, until you find the light switch! Go Adams!!!!!!!!

Hi, I am buying a home from Adams, they are beautiful. The reason they are as inexpensive as they are is because they had a large group put deposits on alot of homes and backed out after construction started. The builder is offering them at a cheaper price to cut there losses. Adams also will pay for closing costs if you use there approved lenders, of which they have several to choose from.

Do you actually believe that? They will say or do whatever it takes for you to sign on the dotted line, they are in business to sell their homes, I'd take everything they say with a grain of salt......of course, if its in writing even then I'd have my doubts. As I always say, buyer beware, not just here in Hernando Cty but anywhere in FL.

Default Adams Homes Quality

Really surprised at negative responses. Researched Hernando County for reputable builder and Adams appeared to be one. 16" on center studs. Trusses are above requirement, able to withstand 130 mph rather than 110 code. 6lb carpeting rather than 3. Blown insulation with R value of 30. They use Carrier as their ac provider and I thought they were a good ac company. Use GE as stove and dishwasher provider, cheap but usable. They use delta faucets, cheap but usable, I think. Others in forum have commented on it being a poorly made and cheap product interior and exterior. I know so little about building that I wouldn't know. What materials do they use or not use that make it so cheap. how can one tell if dry wall is cheap, when it looks good? How can one tell that exterior of building is cheap when it appears as solid as other builders, if not as cosmetically beautiful. Not as nice looking as others, but I thought that was how they kept it cheap. Someone please advise. After all the research I put into purchasing a home I don't want to by a lemon. Thanks

Personally speaking (and I'm not booster for Adams Homes by any means, though they have a large presence here in Gulf Breeze)

I've driven through the neighborhoods of the new Adams Homes subdivisions, and visually from the street, they seem to be clean, stylish and always well kept (the homeowners are very proud of their choice).

Granted, I too have heard this and that about Adams homes (mainly w. respect to cheaper materials for the piping, which could prove costly down the road) but the naysayer I was talking to about it said that was something to consider 8-10 years down the road w. respect to the piping etc.

After experiencing Ivan, Katrina, etc., I did not see tons of "blue roofs" in the Adam's homes neighborhoods, as opposed to the older & much more expensive homes in other locations.

.02 cents!

Every door in our Adams home makes a terrible noise when you open it. Even W-D 40 doesn't solve this problem. Adams does not offer any carpet upgrades any longer, and their counter tops are a disgrace! I have found other builders since living in this area now for over three months, who offer all the latter, and their price per square foot is very close to Adams, with three times the quality! We need to put Adams Homes out of business in Florida, so people will not be tricked by their models into buying a sub-standard home. Adams also does not tell you that they do not use a washable paint on their walls, thus, if you have a mark on the wall, you must paint over it, provided Adams leaves you any spare paint for the inside of the home. In my case, they did not!

Before the computer malfunction, I was going to tell A123S that Adams Homes also goes through employees, like I change socks each day. Since I have been in my home three months, Adams Homes has lost four employee's that I know about. I wonder why???????

Most of the Adams homes in SW FL are already built. As stated above, the homes went down in cost due to those who backed out after construction started. So, one is buying a home that has already been built by Adams.
Adams has to meet FL occupancy codes & those are very stringent.

I am sure that every site has some differences due to different subcontractors & how picky they are on the finishing touches. In SW FL & in Adams case, the inside is quickly done with little to no detail. Basically, cheap. We were told by an Adams rep that the quality of the appliances, tile, carpet, & light fixtures is not as "high" as it could be because Adams wants to keep cost at a minimum, etc [yet that is not the reason why the price point was where it was at that time]. He also said that they have 2-3 people for every house in the area. Ironically, many of those homes are still for sale 6 months later & now have brown crap grass & mounds of fire ants. Personally, I notice when drain pipes from gutters are placed to drain right on the driveway or directly into mulch next to the foundation. These are the "little" things that add up down the line.

Mass builder looking to get mass production of its hands. Plain & simple.

Adams does have a good price for the sq footage, but we personally find the company & its policies shady. We looked at homes in the area built in 2005 & they looked worn even though no one had lived in them yet.

We have a bunch of Adams home in Northwest Florida and majority of the homes are well build and survived the past 5 years of hurricanes. They are in the most expensive residential areas and they do have a customer service facility in Gulf Breeze. Many of my friend own homes from Adams and they are very satisfied with their homes.

I seriously doubt that you will find a home without any discrepancies. We own a Henry Home, this was a parade of homes show house and I was the first buyer. In 10 years no complains. I did read the contract and the home warranty book and never had to call for anything.

Sun, I agree.

It seems like the naysayers are trying to apply Arthur Rutenberg Arthur Rutenberg Homes (broken link) level calipers to Adams Homes Adams Homes - The Good Life Deserves A Great Home ! LOL!

To each his own.

By the way.. In my old neighborhood of Soundside Drive, you will find beautiful Adams Homes nestled in fine, well kept neighborhoods, along a drive, that will also take you right in front of beautiful Arthur Rutenberg homes not more than a hop, skip 'n a jump away.

Arthur Rutenberg also has a storefront/office presence in Gulf Breeze. ;-)
