New Fee? Cypress Property & Casualty Homeowners Insurance Policy
For those who have been using Cypress prior to 2010, has anyone else noticed a new single line item charge of $20 in their 2010 Homeowner's Policy from Cypress Property & Casualty for "NIDR ID Restoration Service"? It should show near the bottom of page 1 of the Homeowners Declaration listed as "PREMIUM CHANGE DUE TO COVERAGE CHANGE" and on page 2 buried between all of the State of FL fees.
If the line item is there, look through your entire policy package, you will find a "Rejection Form" from Service First Insurance Group, LLC. If you did not want the service you had to complete the form and fax it back to them within 30 days of the effective date of the homeowners insurance policy.
This "service" was not on my 2009 policy and I did not ask for it to be added to the 2010 policy. (Why would I get stolen ID protection under my homeowner's policy anyway?) Since the insurance premium is paid through escrow with my lender, it is not an item that caught my attention when the new policy came in. I reviewed the prominently placed "IMPORTANT POLICYHOLDER NOTICE" placed in the front of the package (no hint of this change at all), but kinda missed that important opt-out page in the middle of the package. I wonder how many other folks are paying for this "service" without even knowing they are paying for it......
Kinda like adding a "Martian Attack Restoration Service" fee to the policy w/o asking ya. If ya catch it, you opt-out. If ya miss it, someone is making money - BUT you may be covered if martians ever attack you.
Wondering if this line item also on the 2011 policies. I will be getting my 2011 policy notice in the next few weeks and expect to see it on page 2, but since I missed it on the 2010 policy, I would not expect to see it on page 1. After all, in 2011 it would not be a "policy change" any longer.
