Does anybody out there live in or near Putnam county Florida? We own land there and my son has recently moved there. We would like to too. Need to get out of South Florida! I need info on work situation there... I am a teacher and my husband is an electrician who specializes in commercial and industrial work.
It seems like the area is not a real happening place... which is fine... we are looking for quiet but we do need decent paying jobs. Any info would be helpful!
Thanks!

I live in Hollister just west of Palatka. There really isn't much here and for school jobs, we've recently been told that about 100 or so teaching jobs are in jeopardy for next year so now is not a good time to try and get a teaching job in this area.

you're right; there's not much happening in putnam county except for the fishing.

i was talking to a business owner there a few weeks ago and asked what everyone does. he said they either work at some factory that's in palatka, or sell drugs. i don't know how true the latter is, but i saw a few guys snorting cocaine off the back of a toilet, and a group smoking pot downtown. which i'm sure you could see that anywhere, but it seemed everywhere i went, drugs were present.

oops, lol me neither. oh well hopefully they got the information before they came down here. There is a factory here in town that employees at lot of people, it's Georgia Pacific. There really isn't much for jobs here but depending on where you go, it's really not a bad place to be. It's like most palaces, you have your areas of drug use and selling and then your "good part of town". I work at a physical therapy office as the office manager and near the hospital and live about 13 miles from work but we own 5 acers and being in the country is awesome.
