I supposedly live in the nicer area of Spring Hill and it is awful . I would suggest coming down here and drive down spring hill blvd and get a feel for yourself. It is not what you are expecting at all. I am in the process of leaving..
Hope this helps a little...
I would really recommend NOT moving here!!!!!!!!

Wow. That post really helps. I've noticed a lot of good deals (homes) and wondered why housing prices in Spring Hill seem better (for buyers) than other areas. Thanks for the post.

Please show how my facts are not facts.
You must surely have some proof to back that up.

Prices in Spring Hill have always been lower than Pinellas, Pasco and Hillsborough because we are further away from Tampa and there is not a large corporate presence here.
People that live here will generally have to commute a little further for work and this tend to keep the prices down somewhat just like most areas.
If you go to NY, as you go further north out of the city once you get past what would be considered a reasonable commute the prices start declining.
The distance out of Tampa helps to keep the crime level down contrary to what others would have you believe.
I have also lived in Pinellas and Pasco and Hernando's crime is no where near what is going on in those 2 counties.

When I arrived here in Spring Hill, many moons ago, Mariner Blvd. ended at Linden Blvd. all the eye could see were dirt roads and trees, the 4 corners were made up of a Hardee's. Circle K and Winn Dixie, the nearest Supermarket besides Winn Dixie was on US 19, back in those early days the local teens hung out at "the circle", houses are now there. Kids would sit on pickup trucks in the K Mart parking lots, drinking beer and just hanging out.
Crime in this sleepy retirement community was next to none, except in the summer when the kids were bored and they'd ride around in the wee hours with baseball bats and wreck the mailboxes. Back then there were no grow houses, no dealers in the neighborhoods, no gangs opps yes there was one gang the Warlocks over in Brooksville, but Spring Hill wasn't of much interest to them.
Fast forward to 2007, 4 grow houses busted in the last three weeks, a gentle man who never hurt a soul is brutally attacked and nearly killed, robberies
man dares to steal a tangarine from neighbor, fradulent use of credit cards
voilation of probation and it goes on and on. These are facts that were printed in the St. Pete Times or Hernando Today. "Facts".
While crime is less than in The Bronx I admit, crime is still a concern, maybe in the community of Royal Highlands there is no crime, but wait, I read where a man's newly built home was broke into and he lost his brand new appliances
isn't that a crime? Last I heard, if you break into a house, its breaking and entering, yep, I think so and taking appliances is stealing? Yep, its a crime alright, OK that was this past summer, but, its still a crime!!!!!!
OK enough already, we will agree to disagree. I and my family all live here and have several businesses in the community, so this is our bread and butter. I have nothing to gain by saying "there is crime in Hernando Cty".

"Yes, there is crime. There is no place in the world without crime.
The crime level is very low comparitively speaking. "
That is what I said and I still say. You said crime here used to be next to none way back when. Well the population increased and with it the crime. This is one result of a population increase but the crime level is still low comparatively speaking.
You say there were no grow houses but I know people who when they bought their homes 15 years ago would have police helicopters shining spotlights on their acreage in the middle of the night. When they asked around they find out their 5 acres was a grow field years before. So they had the grow house without a house.
Well, the fact is your facts don't support your arguement of a crime plagued county.
They do show there is crime, a fact which was never argued.
You can find bad info about just about anyplace and if you put enough together in one place it may make that place seem terrible but when you spread it out over a county and over an entire year then you can see that it is not that bad.

This thread got a little off track anyway.
The original poster hasn't posted for 2 months and actually moved to Maine.
