Default Thank God for Central A/C....

For without it I would melt...

I went to Seminole Lake Park Saturday morning. Even in the shade I was sooo hot, I couldn't wait to just get back in the car and turn up the A/C. It took at least 15 minutes for my face to stop being red once I got indoors. I guess I'm just not cut out for FL summers...

I did, however, get some nice pictures. I will try and post them sometime today.

just last week i determined that AC is the greatest invention ever. My AC was down for a while cause some idiot was stealing the freon out of it and it fried the unit. It was the humidity that made me miserable, the temp. is not an issue. I don't know how anyone can decide against having AC.

AC is for sissies. People pay big bucks to come to Florida and then spend 6 months inside, wow what a concept! I don't have the AC running as the electric bill scares me more than the heat. And if I use the AC I get fat and lazy because I don't want to go outside and do anything.

By the way, for someone to steal the freon out of their air conditioner, that has to be a desperate area. I couldn't get Freon thanks to the Government, I was going to steal a tank from an AC truck but ended up using propane instead. Works well but is scary!

Florida is too hot? Check out the West coast. Raging wildfires and temperatures well above 100 degrees. Oh, but it's a dry heat. I'll take 90 degrees and humidity thank you.

That's really great that you like the heat and humidity. I for one feel the heat much worse when it's humid. I'm not saying that the West isn't extremely hot, I'm just saying you take 90 degrees low humidity and 90 degrees high humidity, I prefer low humidity. I can take higher temperatures when the humidity is lower.

First, I'm a girl, so being called a sissy doesn't affect me.

Second, there are a lot of people who are just the opposite of you: warm weather makes them lazy and not want to do anything. Even if I didn't have A/C I would just be sitting in the shade somewhere with a fan, not doing anything.

Cold weather, on the other hand, makes me want to move around to get warm and do things.

Also, I was born here, so I didn't pay any "bucks" to get here and spend 6 months inside. It is just my natural tendency to dislike the extreme heat.

In any case, I actually wish I could tolerate the heat better, because I would like to go outside and do things more. I guess I'm just still amazed at how there can be so many people who are completely opposite of each other:

"I hate central A/C," "I love central A/C," "I hate the heat and humidity," "I love the heat and humidity," "I hate the cold," "I love the cold," etc., etc., etc...

Certainly, I'm not saying one of these groups is somehow right and the other wrong. This is one issue that is purely subjective. I just happen to fall into the group that doesn't prefer heat and humidity, is thankful for air conditioning, and doesn't mind cold weather. That's it.

So, I'd like to not make this thread into another debate, but more of a social study about all of the different kinds of people and their thougths about Florida weather. If we can do this, in the end it will be an amazing picture of the incredible diversity of Americans.

PS: backtofla, the other state's summers are different because it isn't still 83 degrees and 90% humidity at 11:00 at night. Again, this isn't saying it's better or worse, just that it is different and I don't prefer it.

Well, see, there is a big different between the east and west coasts. The weather is probably much nicer on the east coast because the Atlantic ocean is larger and cooler than the Gulf.

But, yes, last night (near midnight) it was 83 degrees in St. Petersburg. That's normal here.

Actually I was born here and HATE hot weather. In the "winter" I don't wear any jackets or sweaters (don't own any) anf get 80=90% of my work done on the house and yard then. My complaint is that AC is only good inside, not outside. One thing i have done is weld up "fan stands" from old AC blowers that run on 220Volts and use them outside while trimming tree branches or working on the car. If I have air conditioning inside I will just stay inside and do nothing. I do not have a gym here or air conditioned garage.

And at night here it is common to be between 83 and 87 degrees. Think of how hot the ocean is.
