crystal river is it good for raising kids?
I currently live in st. petersburg, florida, got to get out of this congestive area! I am originally from Maine, I miss it so much. My husband is going to be loosing his job by 2008 due to my ex brother in law whom he works for is closing the business. It was just my husband and him and a sales man, working in the oxygen business. My husband used to be a telecom computer operator at home shopping network but the whole department was let go to hire kids with degrees for 10,000 less per year. He is at a dead end, we don't know what to do. We want to move to a quieter town, but also he needs to make at least 40,000 per year, doing what? He hates the oxygen business now, but will take a job in the field if he has to. Computer jobs are constantly wanting you to re-certify, costs lots of money ya know? He's too old now anyway and doesn't have any degree, just certificates. Does anyone know of any jobs with job training in cirus county that could help us out. We really need to find work there so we can move there. In the meantime, a home business would be a good idea too, we have been looking into all kinds of possibilities for that.

I was born in Tampa, Florida. I lived there for 3 years and then moved to Boca Raton. I lived there for 3 years and then moved to Orlando. I have lived all over Orlando and have lived here a total of 11 years. Just moved back down here from St. Louis. My past 2 years were spent at school there.
But yeah, I still consider Orlando my hometown, I don't remember much about Tampa or Boca and I was definitely raised in Orlando. I'm glad to be back, I love this city.

In the IT world certifications is the name of the game, must be current (a most). Have him do some research with GOV jobs and defense contractors.

I moved to Orlando from Virginia in February of 2004. When I first moved here, I lived in a nice apartment in MetroWest before buying a house in NW Orlando in September 2005.
I have no desire to move to Virginia again...too many taxes!
Plus the weather in Florida can not be beat in the winter!

Born in Jacksonville nearly 50 years ago. Moved to Georgia for 2 years in the 70's then back to Jax until 1992. Then moved to the panhandle -
Franklin County. Now Gulf County, Port St Joe. But, I'll be retiring somewhere else - I can't afford to live here much longer.

Grew up in SC - hated it!
College (undergrad) in TN - loved the mountains, terrible economy
Worked a year in Georgia - hated it!
College (grad) in Tampa, FL - Spent every Sat at the beach!
Worked a year in Georgia - hated it again
Worked a year in California - gorgeous natural beauty but too high priced
couldn't afford a home on a college instructor's salary...
Moved to Orlando - Finally found my home!

We moved to Punta Gorda 4 weeks ago. We chose this place because it's close to the gulf, still small town feel but it has lots of things to do and located just south of Sarasota and north of Ft. Myers, both larger cities with all they offer and short drives. Port Charlotte is close by and the two areas offer all we need, shopping, groceries, doctors. We have a daughter in Ft. Myers, but we liked this area better, less traffic. I love it here!

Wayne Mich (now a sad area, was once nice, clean and cute!)
Watkins Glen NY (Fantastic natural surroundings and the Grand Prix only 3 miles form our home)
Dade City FL (what a cute down-town! Love Dade city)
Madison OH (Lake Erie home with high taxes)
San Antonio TX (Hot, but we liked the area)
Ramstein Germany (BEAUTIFUL)
Haschbach am Remigiusberg Germany (Our Favorite place in Germany, we lived in a home on a hill, there was a castle ruin at the top of the hill!! We would walk to it and look out over the countryside)
Kaiserslautern Germany (like the rest of Germany, BEAUTIFUL)
Buford City GA (our favorite place in the US, so far... Low Taxes)
Birmingham AL (YUCK)
Geneva OH (Genvea-on-the-lake is a great place to spend summer nights)
Ocala FL (It is OK, not the best... not the worst, but we do not like the sub-div we rented in!)
Belleview Fl (just bought an art deco home! We love being right in town!!!)

West side of Cleveland, OH...it is what it is. I appreciate now seeing what I have the past several years
Columbus, OH...OSU grad. Loved it, loved it, loved it. Lived in German Village, a great little area for 2 yrs after college
San Diego, CA...beautiful but too expensive & too extreme for me
Fort Jackson, SC...Army post. Not much more I can explain about that place other than it is hot there.
Fort Benning, Georgia...pretty but no need to go back
Fort Lee, VA...3 hrs from DC; 2 hrs from Williamsburg...lots of great places within driving distance
Seoul, Korea...best experience ever!!!! Amazing culture, people & food. Amazing places to hike & sightsee. I'd go back in a heartbeat.
Fort Knox, KY...yeah...hmmmm.....I'll have to think....
Fort Hood, TX...central TX in the summer [Florida has nothing on TX heat ]....know many special people there. Know many who never made it back to Fort Hood. Appreciate that place due to what it taught us & the value of what is truly important.
Punta Gorda, FL...great place to retire. That is why we are leaving...we are not retirees & feel we age 50 years every time we go to the grocery store...
Every place I have lived has taught me SOMETHING; whether I liked the lesson or even wanted to learn anything from it.
Life is cyclic

If you have lived in multiple cities, which one(s) and how long please?
I would be interested to know where you all are from ( cities ).
Also, if you were moving to Florida for the first time, what city would you pick and why?
Thank you!

U.S. Air Force 1966-1987 locations include:
Sheppard AFB - Wichita Falls, Tx ----1966-1967 so -so
Torrejon AB - Madrid, Spain----------1967-1970 Fantastic!
Izmir, Turkey------------------------1970-1972 very good
Nellis AFB, Nv-----------------------1972-1973 what can I say!
Chiang Mai, Thailand-----------------1973-1974 Fantastic!
Hurlburt Field. Ft. Walton Beach, Fl.--1974-1976 Fantastic!
SHAPE HQ, Mons Belgium------------1976-1981 Great!
Tinker AFB, Ok----------------------1981-1984 alright
Osan, AB, Korea---------------------1984-1985 not bad for a remote tour
Tinker AFB, OK----------------------1985-1987 retire from AF, work for FAA
Retiring next year and planning to retire in either Navarre or Homosassa/Inverness area. Primary reason is first it's Florida and then I like both locations and then somewhat lower cost of living and housing costs for the state. Although I'm leaning more toward the Homosassa area due to a lesser probability of Hurricanes, though not by much! Although Oklahoma has been good to me and great people for the past twenty something years, I'm looking for more enjoyment opportunities in retired life.
