Plus the weather in Florida can not be beat in the winter!
Hi VaNative - I was (30+ years ago) a VA native too - it's the pits, isn't it. Too high taxes, filthy air, too crowded, too expensive and sooooo not worth it. And you're right - the weather here in FL can't be beat.

I had a good chuckle at that - where were you in GA and what did you dislike about it? We actually considered going there, but really didn't like it.

It's great you were able to get back to FL; we're in St. Pete and love it!

We live in Tampa, Florida. The home of Jose Gaspar, Gasparilla, the Tampa Bay Bucs, Lightning, and Devil Rays. We moved here on December 26, 2003.

I lived in Charlotte, NC from August 1, 1999-December 26, 2003. Prior to that, I lived in Long Beach Island/Manahawkin, NJ for about 2 years. I was born and raised in Martinsburg, West Virginia, a town that is only 30 minutes south of the Mason-Dixon Line and near Washington and Baltimore. I lived throughout the greater Washington DC and Baltimore metro areas for a time period of 3 years, after high school and through my college years.

We moved to Florida and choose the city we wanted to live in. It was a rather easy decision to make. We vacationed here and in the Orlando area before we actually moved here and found that the people, environment, and overall feel for the area matched our goals. A long term goal will be for us to move to Key West/Big Pine Key/Marathon. We really like the idea of living in the Keys, but that will be further down the road.

If you want to post a negative do it in your own thread.
LOL! You may be using that hammer a little more than you realize. One thing about Floridians that I love is that they are bluntly honest and do not hold back. Unless other places in the south, I do not consider any part of Florida to be this way. Living here is far different then vacationing here, but I am still exploring much of Florida. I still consider myself to be a tourist for living here.

Grew up in a suburb of Philadelphia. It was OK, I had nothing to compare it with.

Moved to Boca Raton at age 19 to finish school. Liked Boca.

Worked in Key West for five weeks on a temporary job assignment.

Moved to Spring Hill and lived in my parent's duplex to attend grad school in Tampa (could not get into the dorms).

Moved to Tampa and lived on campus until I graduated. I loved Tampa.

Lived in Brandon (suburb of Tampa) about two years. Liked it.

Moved to Naples when I got a job here in 1986. Still here but will be leaving when I retire in about four years. I can't wait to get out of Naples.

I would be interested to know where you all are from ( cities ).

Also, if you were moving to Florida for the first time, what city would you pick and why?

Thank you!

Coral Springs since 2001.

I would have probably picked Parkland just up the road. I came down here to work in the tech sector which is mostly in Broward.
