Default Those Palmetto Bugs????

O.k. I saw what I think may have been one of those awful Palmetto bugs in my house yesterday!! This was a fat oval shaped thing. Is that what I saw?? I dont have a pic because I quickly killed it, lol.
How do you keep them out of your house and do they carry diasease??

Thanks,
Jen

They aren't particularly bad carriers of disease. Expect a few to get in. They'll gravitate to heat and moisture. Put boric acid around your water heater and under your sinks and you'll limit the problems. New construction often uses boric acid within the walls and around the perimeter to limit bug problems.

Default Treat outside LOL

Welcome to Florida Jen !!
Palmetto bugs live in palm trees and the like, if you spray outside most likely you can get rid of them before they invade your new space . I read you post about Flagler and Daytona beaches, in march bike week will invade and then right after spring break (in Daytona), then biketoberfest in october. Dont let the bikers run you off, it provides the county with tons of revenue and the people are great. Hope you enjoy it

They are horrible looking. When we first lived in a luxury condo in Bal Harbour (I am from up north) I saw somwething huge - and they fly! It doesnt matter if its a new house- they can fly in. We had an exterminator every month and they still came in as we were off the beach. Our apartment was spotless, but they proliferate on the beach and in palm trees and mulch.
