Just part of Mother Nature here in beautiful Florida - I must say that here on the East Coast of Fla the balmy breezes keep them away.

Yeah they dont hurt anyone...and they arent even nasty looking......now if you wanna see some scary bugs then go to Tennessee every 13 years these things hatch and make "LOUD" noise and they are attracted to running engines or other loud noises....i was there when they hatched in Nashville in 1997....i worked at a golf coarse doing landscapping.....we saw tons of these bugs everywhere. When i had to turn on the leaf blower or weedeater these bugs would come after me and cover my body but i had to continue using the blower while they were on me.....they dont bite or sting but they look kinda nasty........ they were causing traffic problems on the interstates up there because they would latch on to all the cars and cover the windshields sometimes
they are called "cicadas" ....dont know what other areas of North America have them but when they hatch they are "everywhere"

They were out when I was in NJ last year (or the year before, I can not remember) Those things are so damn noisy. Thank god they arent in Florida. I will take my annoying and easily exterminated ghost ants in my house for what some of my family members have up north in their house any day!

Someone should put some seasoning on them and sell them as a rare Florida delicacy, as you know no other state has any bugs like that.
Wow, what a marketing idea... BBQ them with some Racheal Ray special seasoning and I believe we have a Florida goldmine.
Its just not fair you people in Florida get all the bugs......
Then again bugs are smarter then most people and will not move to states that hit -40 windchill factors for 4 months a year with freezing rain, sleet and snow. Heck no, they want to stay warm and cozy.

LOL, thats what I was saying as I looked at the pictures. I can take the lovebug season and the hurricane season JUST FINE, just as long as I never have to live through another snow fall or blizzard or my personal favorite the Nor-easter...

I love Naples Florida and we drove down one year during May and they were everywhere especially along the interstate.Although they can be messy I would gladly take lovebug season if I could afford to live there. And they are harmless, just a little inconvience. So bring on the lovebugs anyday.

Well, I am from Chicago and I don't have pictures of a blizzard but here is a pic of two cicadas going to town, so to speak. They were were so plentiful a couple of weeks ago that in some areas that you could not avoid stepping on them. The noise they gave off was like you were working in a body shop. In the Chicago Trib they had posted this chart listing the decibels of these amorous cicadas
DECIBEL METER
180 A JET ENGINE AT 1 FOOT
140 Fireworks
120 Cicadas
110 Street festivals
90 MP3 PLAYERS
85 AND ABOVE MAY CAUSE HEARING LOSS
70 FREEWAY TRAFFIC
60 LOUD NEIGHBORS
40 REFRIGERATOR HUMMING
20 WHISPER
