Lee County is either the 7th or 8th largest county in the state by population (based on latest census figures).

Oh, I was basing it off of 2000 pop. stats, but I posted the 2006 Florida crime data. Regardless, it if was in the top 10 population, it would of been posted if it was the safest county is the US. I wasn't ranking Floridas most dangerous counties and cities overall, just ranking the largest by most dangerous to safest. 2005 City data stats for Fort Myers. Check it out, its pretty safe overall. The high crime rate in Fort Myers was also only counting the city limits.

Ya most people don't realize that Ft. Myers is actually one of the smallest areas of the county. only about 65,000 out of almost 600,000. It is very easy to avoid this area. People act like all of SW FL is crime ridden. People don't get randomly shot on a weekly basis down here, but people sure like to make it seem that way!

Not everyone is rude down there, but I can see where some people are coming from about Miami in my experiences
I dont know, it is pretty rampant in Dade. Certainly there are exceptions to everything but customer service and drivers are the rudest I have ever seen, anywhere at anytime. Broward is definitely a friendlier place on the whole and, like you, I avoid Miami at all costs (except for the 8 hrs a day I have to work there lol). But I drive in and drive out and rarely venture around.

Ok, first of all, the area the body was found is known as the "bad area" of town. Secondly, not to be stereotypical, but the fact that she is being identified by the large number of tatoos she has (sp?) tells me she was probably a not so nice person and perhaps involved with the wrong crowd. Thirdly, they haven't even discovered whether foul play was the cause of death. Please tell me your not one those people who post crime stories in hopes of trying to prove an area is crime infested.

CD Natl Average- 325.2, Florida average crimes per 100k-4652

Fort Walton Beach (349.1) CD

Oakloosa County had
3,137.5 crimes per 100,000 in 2006. Thats pretty safe.

Panama City (495.3) CD

Bay county had
4,703.5 crimes per 100,000. A little higher than the state average (and higher than the frequently knocked Broward County)

On the other hand, Escambia County had a bit higher crime rate than the state average (and much higher, once again, than the frequently knocked Broward County)
4,962.1 crimes per 100,000.
Pensacola (427.2) CD

A lot of rural counties in NW Florida were VERY Safe, however, and a great place to raise a family.
Have you checked out Gulf County?
IMHO, prettier beaches than Bay (I've posted lots of pics), and way less crime.
It is a wholesome place to raise kids for sure, but a bit on the isolated side.

Gulf County looks like one of the few unspoiled Florida coastal areas. Can't say I have been in the panhandle, though.

Gulf County-2,126.1 crimes per 100k versus the state average, which I have posted all over this thread. Thats really, really safe. They did not have a homicide, either.

I added a new poll, which is the most dangerous out of the 5 in your opinion, after posting all of the facts?
