Consider flipping forclosures as a line of work and your hubby should find plenty of work.

As all the newspapers and their classified ad sections are now online you can check the availability of jobs in your hubby's profession from NY and make a more informed decision as to how its going to go once you get to Florida. You could start with the St Pete Times job section
tampabay.com - jobs | Know it now. | St. Petersburg Times and tbt*

That was all linked to the housing boom with people fixing up and flipping. It is "OVER". I have a friend who closed her tile store. They went 3 month without selling even one job before packing it in. Her husband is driving a truck now and she is working as a waitress just to make ends meet. I have to wonder where all that money they made when things were jumping. Could it be the two 4x4 trucks, boat, three cars, RV and the $500,000 house that now is worth $175,000? They all thought it would never end.

I am afraid you will be making a big mistake coming here looking for construction work. Did I mention the Mexicans as well as others who work for pretty much nothing and take what few jobs there may be.

When flipping foreclosures you are looking for small quick profits. You don't want to remodel or invest much in the place. Just flip it as soon as possible.

Unless you've got Vanilla Ice's capital from other career projects to put into high end properties that have been trashed or are incomplete construction. (Surprisingly, I really like his tv show on DIY)

Florida's housing market statistics are awful (then why am I so busy?). If you're moving here, he will need to expand his scope. After reading the question, I immediately thought Jacksonville. But according to the following article, you should research Orlando/Kissimmee/Sanford... Jacksonville construction jobs drop in 2010 | Jacksonville Business Journal. There should be some additional jobs created as a result of the Orlando light rail project and if/when the high-speed rail construction begins between Tampa/Orlando, that will be more jobs as well.

you guys are a great source for info! thanks for all ur ideas! i do like the idea of flipping houses- just worried if they will actually sell based off what i have been reading-i am finding out the problem seems to be that people dont show up to do the work- i have many friends and family in florida and all have said my husband would do extremely well because he shows up for work- if he has an appt for a side job he will show up and not leave you hanging- my parents were waiting for months for anyone to even get to there house to look at installing a screened inclousure for them! and i see ads on craiglsit list alot of people begging for someone to come build a deck or shed or even do a roof. I am very confused if there is work or not or whats out there may just be sucked up right away- i work at home and my pay pays more than they housing would cost us- so thats a plus- him working would be for bills and xtras to get us started in the area. im gonna keep researching- we were planning on moving like may or juneish. thanks for everyones help.
