Unfortunately, that "farmland" is part of the new "high-tech corridor." USF Lakeland will start building in this area next year, and you can expect lots more development between Lakeland and Orlando. Eventually it WILL be Orlampa. Believe me, I am not looking forward to it. I hope someone gets smart and keeps some of it in groves and other crops - someone's got to grow this stuff!

What exactly is the high-tech corridor? Bio-tech companies? Or is it just wishful thinking and it will really be a bunch of Hooter's and Bennigans and auto malls?

Agreed! I wish the orange groves would come back, and the nice quaintness... and that "Orlampa" would never happen. But it will, and what a mess that will be.
The groves moved south after the Big Chill in the 80's, never to return. And Suburbia spread outward from Tampa and from Orlando and they're bound to meet in the middle.
What's really bad is, I-4 is a major evacuation route out. Imagine it - every time there's a god-forbid bucs game, every time there's a big event, or even a cop writing a ticket by the road, that's all it takes for I-4 to back up for miles. Sometimes it backs up for no reason at all. And we're depending on that for an evac route?? Eh, the mother of all traffic jams.

I am sorry you moved down to FL. I feel bad for you (or anyone else that gets suckered into moving to FL, where crime is high, decent-paying jobs are few, and cost of living is through the roof). I hope you actually manage to get A job (some job... anything) and can find some nice roommates, so you can afford an apt instead of having to live at a hotel.....
I wish you best of luck.... You will need it.

What the heck are you talking about. Jen is extremely happy living in Florida, but of course you see her post something that every darn state has, a busy road and you make it out like she was suckered!
For your info she is doing fine, she is happy, her kids and hubby are happy with the move and nothing you twist will change that.
One darn road don't make Florida bad...... Why the heck are you still in Florida? There are jobs, good paying jobs in Florida, you just got to get out an look instead of spending time spitting crap about Florida. If you cannot find anything more then min. wage its your own fault, its called learn a trade, get a education or do something to obtain a skill to make yourself worth more to en employer.
She dont need a darn job either !!!
You are taking something out of text again to prove how bad you think Florida is, but you know what, NO ONE IS LISTENING but me...
If I was a Floridians it would be people that turn a very good positive into a negative that I would want out of the state.
Drive around Washington DC, it makes I-4 look like a merry go round. Heck, even you can drive on 1-4 !1 Nevermind, you cant afford the gas to even get in a car because you cannot find a job.... but then you have internet access. uhmmmm
8 people from this board since I joined have moved to Floirda, I have been in contact with them about the moves and they ALL ARE VERY HAPPY they did.
Please do us ALL a favor, stop twisting a good thing into a nightmare, read her other post to see how much she likes in Fla before you tare her post down into a another Florida bad thing.
She surely didnt mean it that way at all.
And she wont need any luck, she is doing just fine.. which proves you WRONG AGAIN !!!
Please explain how she was suckered, I would like to see your point so she can read this later and respond herself.

This is TRUE! Yes, I have complained about I-4, and I'm very nervous about driving on it. But compared to the Capitol Beltway (do they still call it that?) up in DC, OMG what a nightmare. It was awful 30 years ago, I can't imagine how much worse it would be now.
Or how 'bout icy interstates up north, cars following too close (on icy roads - what are they thinking???) - skidding out of control, with the resulting multi-car pile-ups.
And then there's I-75 Atlanta. That is way worse than I-4. We were driving through, and right in front of me, two cars tried to get into one lane in bumper-to-bumper high speed traffic with the result that one car hit the concrete barrier to the right and flipped over and there were car parts flying everywhere and everyone just trying to get around it.
So FL doesn't have a lock on scary interstates - it's just that we who live here will complain about having to put up with it as it really gets bad sometimes. But there are worse traffic nightmares than this. Anyone seen pix of LA recently?

I TOTALLY AGREE!!!!! I have always LOVED Florida, but now that I am a resident, I find myself wanting to protect it somehow, and I see what you all are talking about with the over-developing. Its so sad!!!!!

NirvanaDude, I was NOT suckered into moving to Florida. I love it here, but I posted about I-4 because I DO see what others talk about when having to drive though Orlando. That was my ONLY reason for posting that, also I mentioned that I-4 is the ONLY THING about Florida that I do not like, LOL!
Orlando is a BIG BIG city and traffic is going to happen to matter what! You have to understand where I came from when I moved down here. My old town had only 400 people living in it. Traffic did not happen, LOL.
So I guess going through Orlando was a shock, haha!
Anyway, to set the record straight, my husband already had a job when we moved here, he drives over the road, I stay at home with our 3 children, and I also own my own home business. pm me if you are looking for a job!!
I am MARRIED, so I dont need roommates, LMAO! And we have a 2650 sq foot house here, gorgeous!
So no other complaints besides crazy old I-4!!

Once again, THANK YOU FloridaBound!! I should not have posted anything about I-4 at all I guess.
Like I stated in another reply, Orlando is a HUGE city, and traffic is going to happen there.
