Humm, I usually shop at the publix in the vineyards. It is a very small world.

I am very jealous though. My plan was to move to TN. There are so many people I know who are planning or who have moved there from Naples.
My DH is not so sure though. I hardly ever go to the beach (we have a pool).
but I just know as soon as I am gone that I would miss it. Of course that would be the only thing.

Just noticed your post on the patrol cars and fire trucks in driveways. I'd be kinda wondering what's going on - unless it's a fire dept admin vehicle - as CCSO is the only agency that allows take home vehicles. Just a thought.
Yep, were in Waterways. You know the area well.
The CCSO squads seem abundant in both neighborhoods, Waterways-Orangetree. The fire vehicles appear to be the admin type, red pick-ups and sedans with lettering on the side. Not for the "working" fireman Im sure. LOL

As far as all of you buying islands and moving away.... youre not allowed to move off the grid unless you take us too!! Please!????

I have a second home in pelican bay, and quite frankly we had a lot of choices of where to buy in Florida. The face of the matter is those here who bitc.h about Naples probably can't afford it anymore, and it's too bad that they take it out on the city. You are the same asses that made 150% return on your homes in 10 years if you were smart, but still complain about the city.

Naples proper as well as north Naples are both some of the most beautiful places in all of America. No where else will you find such clean streets, sidewalks, and beaches. The people are some of the friendliest around. And don't complain about us snowbirds, because if it wasn't for our money, your houses would never increase in value. Nor would you have many jobs in the service sector as well.

I'm sick of folks bashing Naples as some immigrant laden town. Don't believe their BS and go down to a city of paradise and see for yourself what it's like.

Naples IS flooded with Illegals , theyall land on Marco and Sanibel and seem to find their ways to Immokalee or Naples Park, or Naples Manor.. Naples Daily news just a couple days ago

27 Cuban migrants land in Sanibel Island
“The migrants were in a 35-foot craft with multiple engines moving at an extremely high rate of speed,” Coast Guard Petty Officer Robert Simpson said. “We were chasing them in 25-foot Coast Guard small boats that move in

excess of 40 knots, and their craft was moving in excess of 40 knots, as well.”
“This is the fourth landing in 18 months, it’s an issue that continues to grow,” he said. “We have never had a problem until this, and now we have four in a year and a half.”

Just a couple of snippits from the article.

As far as people who gripe about it cant afford to live there, yah thats probably true, I still to this day complain about Naples, I grew up there, but I moved away, even with my husband making very close to $20 an hour we could not afford it. Given you can't afford much when you're 24 but we saw what was happening, how we would never be able to buy a house and the best we could hope for was a condo with restrictions on my pick up , no pets, and children aren't tolderated.. Some life, I dunno bought you but I don't like be told what to do as much as the next guy. NH was right for us, and well the motto fit, Live free or die.. And boy do they defend that up here. But it was more about the price of living, the respect people give up here, and well just the sheer act of being happy.. Beside, those who say that Naples isn't expensive are the ones pushing the middle man out.. The stats don't lie.

Workers Flee Overvalued Naples Housing Market

Take Naples, Florida, the most overvalued U.S. market by National City's estimate. By the last quarter of 2006, the median price for a home, at $367,200, was about 94 percent over what National City judged it should be.

But by the end of the first quarter, the median home price in Naples was $383,000, an increase of more than four percent in just three months. Naples real estate now sells for more than double what it should cost

As for some of the nicest people around I have to HIGHLY HIGHLY disagree, they are some of the meanest miserable nastiest people I have ever met in my life, or had the misery of living around. My husband can tell you months worth of stories from people calling the sheriffs office, nothing but nasty to people trying to help them, so that is for sure is wrong and a half and I'm sure there are tons of people on this board who will highly object to what you wrote..
As far as the snowbirds, Naples did fine without them and it'll be fine in the future without them. The comedown , totally lost, der der dering their way through the streets at prime rush hour times, creating grid lock because they don't want to wait through anothe red light so they'd rather sit in the middle of Airport and Pine Ridge and shrug their shoulders or remain oblivious to the cars on either side of the intersection who have a green but can't move. Or run reds, disobey school zones, clog up the doctors offices in prime cold season so people who live there year round can't get in to see their own doctor. So pulleezee it may be paradise for you, but perhaps you are everything above I just wrote about.
You have a second home in Pelican Bay ,, LOL are you serious! you love Naples.. YAH perhaps because your "second" home that you don't live in only cost you $800,000 and you dont' have to grovel and work your butt off everyday just to decide at the end of the month if you buy food or pay rent. You obviously have money to spend and nothing but time, im sure at one time in your life you worked hard for it but don't be nasty to people who are just trying to do the same , and aren't as fortunate as you. What a joke

I always crack up when somebody says life is about survival of the fittest. Sure, some people will be billionaires and others will be poor. But survival of the fittest?

Okay so:

1. Any baby with anything slightly wrong would be left to die....thats how mother nature does it with animals in the wild.

2. You let your guard down for a second and I can smack you...after all I am 6"4", 220, and very fit....so I am fitter than you. And when a dude comes along tougher than me, he beats me up and takes my stuff. Just like wild lions.

3. Somebody collapses with a heart ailment or whatever...no CPR...I mean hey, they were not fit enough right?

Sorry, survival of the fittest works for wild boars...but it is highly limited for civilized humans.

Survival of the fittest? This is a thread about Naples right? I don't know where the fittest are, Could be at the gym ? Pelican bay is only North Naples, Yes it was voted in to the city limits but its still not the old money billionaire area of naples. I think of it as the guest house built on the muck no one else would build on. But thats just my look at it obviously.

I hear you can go snob spotting during season in Naples at the Waterside Shops. Boca and Palm Beach is so full of Botox during season. Nothing better then seeing a 80 year old woman with Botox lips and 20 lbs of ugly jewelry.

The rude attitudes are what drove and are driving people away. People get sick of having to deal with it.

At one point, Naples had the worst drop in housing prices in the nation. Then the Naples Board of Realtors stopped reporting their statistics altogether.

People are leaving and the rude people are seeing their house values plummet. Maybe nice guys do finish first.

Well pack your bags, baby, cuz Supermomlol and I are on our way!!

When Waterways first put up their sign I remember driving past it on my way to the fairgrounds and laughing. I couldn't imagine any fool in his right mind that would pay over $100k to live in the middle of nowhere, right outside of Immokalee. I just knew the subdivision was doomed to fail. Pre-hubby I dated a deputy that lived in there and had a gorgeous home. I personally hate gated communities - I'm a total loner!! - but it was a really nice house. I also had friends we worked with that had an awesome little house in Orangetree. But all the deputies at the time saw what Waterways could be - especially after watching Orangetree go crazy - and jumped in. They were smart!! And yet, I'm still happy I didn't buy in there. I'd probably be too afraid to let go of all that equity in the house and never would have left. At least renting like we were, I had nothing to lose. Leaving for me was really easy.

So - are your things packed yet??

I have lived in Naples for the past 24 years. The last 5 have been very trying. My youngest son who is 27, has given up on Naples and leaving Florida for good. He will soon be on his way to New Mexico. Where he at least knows some computer tech. jobs are...."THAT PAY!" I have worked at a local retail store...One of the Biggies and see people load cars in the evening with shipping boxes. I ask them ....movin....yep. many to NC many construction folks. Tenn. police and teachers. Computer tech jobs Calif. and New Mexico. People are nasty here and it was that way 24 years ago. You just learned to tune it out, but it's not worth it.
Neither is the cheap pay that goes along with a "Right To Work State" no accountability. Karry
