Will this alone guarantee you a semi-decent job in the Dade or Tampa area?

I don't want to sound like a smartazz but I highly doubt that speaking Spanish alone will guarantee you of any job, anywhere, even a semi-decent one. I think anybody would probably want something more to go along with the language.

No but it'll certainly help you get around Dade Cnty.

Annoying. I went to the Springsteen Born in the USA concert at the Orange Bowl , many many moons ago. Got lost down there. Saw a police officer standing outside of a 7-11 so I pulled in and asked him how to get back to Lauderdale.

He "no comprende' english'

Ya know, it REALLY gets me going sometimes but when I think about it, I wish I learned a 2nd language. I have a client In Pennsylvania who had his kids go to Mandarin school. Now, years later, his kids can speak ( fluently) English, Mandarin and German. Those kids can go almost anywhere.

My Wife is from Vietnam and I lived in the country for 2 years full time, ( 2000-2002). I could have had a full time interpreter/instructor for 150 bucks a month to tail me around and help me learn. I was too arrogant to do so and now I wish I did. Back in the USA I'm too busy to even consider it.

Oops, I'm rambling now. Bottom line is I think it's great that some people speak multiple languages. Just to have the ability to process a language going into the ears, translate it, and speak a different language on the way out is really cool, and a good thing to help manuever in the world.

It may not guarantee you a job, but it should add a modest amount to your base pay. If you can converse fluently in Spanish, most major employers will add a small premium to your base pay. Every little bit helps .

Catch 22...

Spanish "only" speaking people are taking over the majority of our jobs....... And they dont need to learn the offical and should be required English language to land a job. Really makes sense to me!

Spwko no english, no jobo !! no foodo, no houso, no caro, no ss, no anythingo

Disagree. I wouldn't generalize to say the majority of our jobs. A select sector of a state perhaps but very few at those. If you want to be a cafeteria counter clerk in Little Havana, Miami, you don't need English. In Washington Heights, NYC maybe also. I don't know other areas well enough to speak about those, but all in all, I say English is still mandatory in MOST parts of the USA.

To make it simple, it must be forced upon any person who comes to the US from "any" country to learn our lanquage and adjust to us, not us adjust to them.
We are slowly being forced into learning spanish right before our eyes. I am sick of it myself. It's gone to far already.

As a veteran I think anyone with a DD214 should take this as a insult as well as discrimination.
