Default recent returnee to s. florida

I was raised in S. Florida (Davie) and moved away 10 years ago for work. I've lived and traveled around the world, and I most recently lived in Philadelphia (chestnut hill) and realized 3 months ago that I wanted to established roots back in S. florida near my family.

So I left my job and moved back to Weston. This is a great place to be and I don't regret moving back, I would recommend that you establish employment before you move though. The job market is very hard down here and not very open for good $$$$-jobs. Ideally come here as a job transfer rather than looking for a new position. I've had friends take up to 2 years to find the "right" job in S. Florida.

good luck!

My Dh and I grew up in Nj. My sister got married and moved to Miami. My parents always wanted to live in Fla. So after Dh and I got married we also looked into moving to Fla.
We bought into Cape Coral when our house was only listed for $67,000 (that was 12 years ago). My parents followed suit soon after.
Ten years later (and 3 children) we started missing the north. The Cape was getting too crowded, the schools were not top notch and we wanted our kids to experience snow and sitting by the fireplace, etc (ok, I missed that part!).
So in March of 2004 we moved to Pa. - couldn't afford to go back to NJ.
We LOVED Pa. - loved the scenery--enjoyed the fireplace. Kids took up snowboarding. But DH couldn't find a job that compared to the one in Fla. (he loved his boss and company).
And his boss missed him...and kept making the offer sweeter to come back to Fla.
Have to add ---my sister and her Dh and kids left Miami too. They moved right back to our hometown in NJ. My parents are still in Cape Coral.
We knew we didn't want to move back to the Cape but wanted to be somewhat close to my parents. We choose North Port.
It reminds me of the Cape when we first moved to it (although nothing for 67,000 anymore, huh?!)--no houses around us, etc. I know 10 years from now I probably will be pulling my hair seeing neighbors on top of us again.
Actually, we went to visit Pa. this summer and still really miss it.
If we had the pay of Fla. back in Pa. we wouldn't have moved. I just think there is so much more to do in Pa. and it's more pleasing to the eye.
So, it wouldn't surprise me if we up and move again...but for now, I just want my kids to settle in and feel like someplace is home=)

I was born and raised in Jacksonville, Florida and left at 25 when I got married; we moved to Hawaii (3 year shore duty military assignment!) & then to Austin, Texas for the past 8 years. My husband and I are desperate to get back to Florida! We are going in August to check out the Destin/Santa Rosa Beach area. I read a saying once that went along lines of "the spirit of the sea has caputured my soul in its net".

Rather Ironic considering the handle you chose to post under...

A VERY smart way to handle it!-especially keeping your options open, being flexible and absolutely sure before you move.

Austin is a very nice place to live, but it just does not feel like HOME to me. There is nothing wrong with Austin. Remember the song, "don't let your boys grow up to be cowboys" - that's how I feel, I'd rather them grow up to be surfers!

If you do not feel any strong desire to be by the coast, then I would certainly "go for it"!
