I am a dental hygienist, my husband is a contractor, and we have 3 boys with a baby on the way. We currently live in Mich. which for my occupation is doing well, but for him not good at all. We have an opportunity to purchase land in Davenport FL. Some we would build our home on, the other homes to sell. My question is waht is it like there, if any one has feedback let me know. I read from other threads, schools not so good. What about driving 15 mintues or so to a decent school? Also how far are we looking to comute to work. I assume since Disney isn't so far away it is a potentially good investment. ????????

All I know is that schools in Polk County arent that good - we looked into it about 2 years ago but decided on the Coast instead.
We had a house in Davenport off the HWY 27 and it took us about 15 minutes to get to Disney...so about 15-20 minutes to get to Kissimmee, and about 30 minutes to Orlando maybe a bit longer. We went through Davenport (well hwy 27) the other day after visitng friends in Orlando and it is being built up a lot since we left there in november 2005. i dont know about any specific school sorry but if you look at the school district website that may give you an indication of where the good schools are. hope that helps |

I live and teach in Lake County FL. It is just to the north of Polk County and more specifically, Davenport. I have worked with teachers who have taught in Davenport schools. They were not happy and changed to teaching in Lake County. I know that if you live on the Lake County side of Davenport then your kids can go to the Lake County school that is in what we locals call the four corners area. This area consists of four counties that come together at one point (Osceola, Polk, Lake and Orange counties). We live in Howey in the Hills. It is about 35 miles north of Davenport in Lake County. We have a really good Elementary and Middle school that our kids go to and a pretty good High school.
