As mentioned above, in the smaller cities, in-person searches are best, but there are some online rentals for St. Augustine.

Here's one I found on realtor.com, just to give you an example:

It may not look fancy, but The Shores is a safe, stable, large development about 15 mins or so from the beach. It is also far enough south in St. Augustine to make a commute to Palatka feasible.

Here's another. This one is at The Conquistador, which is a condo inside of The Shores (there are a few condo developments in The Shores):

*I would avoid the rental listings for The World Golf Village and Wingfield Glen......these are too far north in St. John's county for your commute.

There were some rentals under Palatka too on realtor.com, but I'm not as familiar with the subdivisions there to know what is decent or not...give it a search though.

I don't see a category for St. Augustine or Palatka on Craigslist, so any listings are probably under Jacksonville:

http://jacksonville.craigslist.org/

(there is a "housing wanted" category in case you wanted to list there)

Not so much. The areas with the apartment rentals tend to be decent areas.

There are a few rural spots and some small spots in downtown that are a little depressed (and have some crime issues), but I don't think you'll run across this in your search for rentals.
