And, why would I refer so negatively about my home turf ... ? Because, I was a free thinker, an independent guy. I chose not to marry and had no kids. I did my own thing, I always bucked the system and complained, if I saw a problem. And I am Buddhist. Central Florida might be one of the hardest areas in the world to make a decent salary, or own a highly profitable business. Blacks had it hard there, or any minority. I cannot imagine being gay or a poor black man there.

I wasted a lot of years in G'ville... Time = money.

I could have moved out sooner, to NY, Chicago or SF, and made something more of myself. Although I am successful ... I could have been more, if I bailed from Central Florida sooner. I could have contributed more to the world, in a volunteering / giving way, if I had reached success sooner.

I've had 5 close friends commit suicide in G'ville - in recent years: youngest was 30, oldest was 47.

Think about it ... if you fail in G'ville, where do you go? ... Bronson? Levy County? Mayo? Waldo? ... I'd rather be dead than live the rest of my life in Bronson, Florida.

And UF or SF, the mentality there oppresses indirect pressure on young people that if you don't get a college education, you'll be a nobody.

What people never talk about is that ... UF is a Business, and they make a lot of money, trustees, professors, athletic coaches, Shands personel, etc.

I feel so lucky and happy ( God willing ) that I was able to leave Central Florida.

Just my two cents, silly, hopefully helpful opinion.

Peace

I just heard on a radio interview that the family living in the van received 2 full ride scholarships to Stetson for the kids. I think that is fantastic but a nice job offer for the dad from Stetson would have helped

Actually the Dad did get a job offer from a non profit and another donor has arranged to pay for the family to live in a home for the next 2 years rent free.

I'm on hwy 192 and homeless with children and even with all the public knowledge there still isn't help. I have been turned away from every organization and church in 2 counties.
My home church gave me a gas card to use in case we must sleep in our car . all I can say is I'm disappointed and scared and hurt. I am ready to return to Ga where my family is but no gas to get there. All the funds that are supposed to be helping are not being used to get people a roof over their heads. The shelters won't take me with my kids they don't take boys over 10 .

After two nights in a car someone helped with a room for a night. I am so tired... We are still in need of assistance just aren't getting it out here I feel voiceless so many ppl in need so few able to help. My own church pastor turned us away when I asked for somewhere to shower. What happened to being the body of Christ.

I dont mean to be horrible but no one / family in GA can help you? and I do I agree the churches need to be better at helps instead of building gyms and golf courses, but God will handle that. Can you sell the car n get bus tickets? and lastly are you at the library?
