My boyfriend is from Florida, his parents have lived in Spring Hill for almost 20 yrs. He moved to Cali to be with me almost 2 years ago but has not been able to find a job, he has a job offer near Spring Hill and I am all for moving, just wanted to get some input on any concerns I should be thinking about moving a 13 year old boy from cali who has never lived anywhere else. From what I have seen from visiting, the area is very nice, much like where we live now near San Diego, but my concern is the difference in culture. My son is half white and hispanic, just want to know what he might be facing when he begins school.

Well it's all about perspective. If you have visited and looked around SH and liked it that is what matters. I personally don't know what SH and San Diego have in common though. Hernando and Pasco don't have much diversity.

I have never been to San Diego, but SH is very diverse racially. I think this town may have been a pioneer in mixing cultures between hispanics/caucasions Your son will blend in just fine. There is a very strong prescence of hispanic/latino culture here.

SH is 80% white and SD is 47%. Quite the difference.

So Spring Hill probably isn't the melting pot that the one poster claims.

Sure it is. Hispanics, African-Americans, immigrants from the Caribbean and other parts of the world live here. Russians, Chinese, a few Vietnamese, but not too many, middle-easterners, I guess people from everywhere in the world are here. They are not here in the volume that Tampa may have and certainly not the volume Orlando has and for good reasons. First of all, there is nothing much here for them. Orlando has a large Vietnamese population and an area just east of downtown Orlando supports their ethnic needs.
For a foreign person Spring Hill does not have the social base to support them. Keep in mind. Spring Hill is not a city, not a town. It is a housing development. If you go to Brooksville life is different there. Those are true Southern people and I must say some of the nicest people I have had the pleasure of meeting. However, they are suspicious of the transplants from Spring Hill and they should be.

Yes, its mostly white America here in Spring Hill but people must understand why.

Yeah, it's not. The % clearly reflect it.
