So, did all the Haitian-Americans walk out of the school because THEY were getting "lumped in".

What's up with all these hyphonated Americans anyway? If maintaining your 1st gen culture is so important; be a better representative, NOT someone who whines at the merest perceived slight. Do all the transplanted French Candians from eastern Canada who settled in Lousiana refer to themselves as Acadian-Americans or better yet, Canadian-Americans? How about, Icelandic-Americans or Australian-Americans or ... aaah nuts, this is just stupid stuff. Don't any of these people understand that referring to yourself as your predecessors point of origin isn't enhancing your status but merely reducing you to something akin to wearing a license plate. Your pride should be centered on being an American and not on identifying your heritage location.

Good grief a silly, non-politically-correct, comment by a teacher warrants all of this turmoil?

What about the fact that the school board acknowledges the viewpoint that it's an insult be considered Haitian? Isn't suspending the teacher for calling someone Haitian perpetuating that any race or lineage is better than another? Ridiculous. I'd say "Suck it up, it was a mistake, if YOU think it's an insult to be called Haitian, than you and your parents need to work on your racism issues at HOME"

I'm Chinese, so if someone come over to say "do you know kung fu?" or "show me your kung fu" Or someone call over and ask "are you Vietnamese or Filipino??

Should I be offended? I don't. Honestly I don't care. I have the same problem with white or black or Hispanic people. I cannot tell their origin. Actually I don't give a damn where they from as long as they are nice and respect other people.
