Thank you all for your replies! I have found a place called Blue Planet Co-op in St Augustine so I am going to check it out. I live in Palm Coast so am trying to find someplace close to me. I also visit the farmers market in flagler too...

That's my point. How do you know that? Because they say so?

Well, yes. Because how do you know ANYTHING is "really" organic if we weren't there to watch them produce it. We just have to trust, I guess unless you know some other way of knowing whether they are "truly organic" or not.
I am happy that Publix is offering their organic products. I find them delicious and cost effective compared to the other organic brands available.

organic
The organic red delicious apples that Publix sells are wonderful, crisp and have a grape-like flavor. I bought some regular red delicious apples one time to 'save money'...I took them back. They had no flavor. The extra cost was worth it.

Organic Food Labeling
There are different levels of organic labeling. Something is only 100% organic if it says 100% Organic. If something just says "Organic" then it has some non-organic constituents in it. A good link explaining this is: Consumer Homepage
The USDA allows certain companies to certify farmers, production companies etc as organic. Check for the USDA Organic Label and the certification agency.

As a case in point of what's going on in the food and drink world, Pepsi is disclosing this week on the labels of their water that the source is TAP.
Coca cola will be doing the same.

Publix practices much of the same policies organic stores do. Their products are wholly inspected by the USDA. There's a difference on their labels though, and it can be misleading. Publix offers "natural foods" which are just minimally processed, without artificial colors, sweetners, or preservatives. Whereas "organic" is USDA inspected, and slapped with that pretty organic logo (unless it's under a certain percentage, then the logo goes on the back or side of the item). The farmers that sell to Publix have to follow the exact same strict guidelines that other organic/natural farmers do.
