I have written extensively on my contempt for the term "Hispanic." In response to those who STILL insist on using it in any fashion, either as a race OR an ethnicity (and I argue that there shouldn't even be an "ethnicity" known as "Hispanic" at all!), I propose a new ethnicity be dubbed to refer to all people who come from countries originally settled and colonized by Great Britain: Brittanican.


You see, since the only common thread running amongst "Hispanic" countries is that they were once colonized by Spain, the citizens of the United States, Great Britain, Canada, Australia, Jamaica and South Africa shall all be known as "Brittanicans" because those countries were colonized and settled by the British. You're not "German American" or "African American" anymore. You're not "Irish Australian" or "French Canadian." You're Brittanican. After all, we all have British common law derived legal systems, speak English, and share a lot of common culture otherwise.You are Brittanican, no matter what your race is. Black, white, Asian, Arab.... all Brittanican, and recognized as such throughout the world.

Therefore, the moment you're family arrives in America as a "Hispanic," by the next generation your children are "Brittanican." After all, Italian descent people that emigrated to Argentina after WW2 are now "Hispanic" when they come to the US, so it makes sense to me!

Sound a bit stupid? You bet. But you see, that's EXACTLY what we do when we refer to "Hispanics" as a culture or ethnicity. As if Urguayans are the same culture and racial mixture as Mexicans! They're not.

So anyway, let us all make a conscious effort to eradicate the use of the mean-nothing term "Hispanic!"

No group is perfect or angels, but when they distort the info and or tell half parts of it then they are hiding the real truth. If the numbers are put out in plain and simple context of how they arrived at those numbers, then we each can decide it. My opinion is they will never show the real numbers of who is committing the crimes unless it is shown to the higher degree that whites are the higher percent when in fact by percentages of each group it would not be.
Lets face it, the media will not show us the whole picture and will hide the real side of the picture at will. One side they will never show the positives and only the negatives and the other side the reverse.

And no, there are no angels in the crowd no matter what race you are, we got problems all around and WE ALL need to find a way to deal with it.

Tell me the real numbers in total and not just half of it.

xxxx amount of whites, xxxx amount have commited crimes
xxxx amount of blacks, xxxx amount have commited crimes
xxxx amount of "hispanics" ??, xxxx have committed crimes, xxxx
xxxx amount of asians, xxxx have committed crimes

Then we ourselves can figure the real percentage.

It is an outright lie that 88% of the total crimes are committed by whites. If I am wrong then I am sorry, but they are not telling us the "real" numbers.

I was a white until recently. That was when I was informed that, due to my Grandfather's origins (Brazil), I was Hispanic.

I was always white before that.

My last name is Clinton... Like the president? Yet I am hispanic while all other Clintons are not.

Brazil is not a "Hispanic" country. They speak Portuguese in Brazil...Hispanic refers to people coming from the Spanish speaking countries.

like has been mentioned hardly a bastion of truth and who watches it now anyway it's simlar to most of the media, whether that be most local papers. I live in st augustine and know a lady who works for the local paper who has told me how they bias the facts or even don't mention certain news, probably like CNN,MSNBC, ABC,CBS, NPR PBS, ETC ETC and don't get me started on the national papers.

Being from England you'd be amazed how much trouble the BBC has been in for distorting the story they cover and being biased along with many other media like the guardian newspaper .

Like has been mentioned anyway I don't tend to believe most media anyway, I hear it being reported then when I look into it I notice those stations have distorted the story.

to addres your question about angels. Well I'm not originally from america but can honestly say that I've never heard one person think that whites are angels or got a high % criminal rate though you say high how high is high to you?


Racism is used a lot nowadays and especially used to not have a debate for instance your racist instead of debating.
I mean the word and meaning has lost it's way for instance being racist means you believe your race is better than others. Now if one says many (insert race) is moving in then that is not racist saying however you think they are moving in but you're better is.
saying you wish they could learn the language is not racist but saying your race is better and they should learn the language because your race is better is racist .

Many names have been spread and used to cancel debate today which is a shame.

Who told you that?! Some know-nothing civil servant or a fellow Brazilian trying to escape the "uncoolness" of being a white oppressor? Ignore that person. Besides, since when did one gradparent change your genetic makeup THAT much? (I'll save my problems with the "one drop rule" for a different day!) I have a good Brazilian friend who catches flack from his "Hispanic" friends for not lumping himself in with "non-whites" by virtue of the accident of his country of origin.

Then again, the whole categorization of Brazilians is another reason why "Hispanic" is a meaningless term that should be given a swift death.

You know, the idiots who put Hispanic under race on job applications, loans, any paperwork where they want to know this, are just that. Idiots.

I have personally, believe it or not, come across applications for various purposes and I will cross out and correct any that have their information WRONG!

Hispanics is not a race. It is a matter of ethnicity and that's all.

For example, I am Cuban. Born in Cuba. From Cuban and SPANIARD parents and I am about as white as white can get. I'm not anglo because I was born in Cuba but as far as race, I'm white - for better or for worse.

I'll give you another example. My son. Born in Peru - yeah cause that's where I happened to be when I was ready to bring him into the world.

What is his background? Born in Peru. Cuban/Spaniard mother. Father. Born in Peru. Spaniard mother and Sicilian father. WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY back in time, one of the Italians on the my son's grandfather's side decided to "intermarry" with I think it was a Bolivian person.

What would you call my son? Caucasian (I would). Not Black. Not Asian. Not Native American. Mestizo is not a race. Mulatto is not a race. Hispanic is not a race. I highly doubt that his mix of Peruvian/Cuban/Spaniard/Italian makes him anything so special that he wouldn't belong in any of the legitimate race categories.
