Yep, I found this out verbally last week by calling then read that article in another thread a day or two later confirming that problem.

I would (if possible) to GTHO of there.

I don't like this Florida governor at all, at least Bush was more humane.

Hold the phone! When does the flow of cash to these "agencies" who provide for the disabled stop?
There are programs for the disabled. Its called Social Security Disability. There is Medicaid. There is other means of helping the disabled. All this worked fine for decades. Then the "programs" started all run by private companies. What these numerous "programs" are doing is paying huge salaries to the employees of these "programs" which justify their existence as they are helping the disabled. Helping them do what? They aren't resolving the disability, they are simply babysitting the disabled. When does it stop? How can any government continually push millions of dollars each and every year into "programs" that basically do nothing to resolve the problem.

It is not possible to keep handing out the cash when there is no cash to be handed out. Thus cuts have to be made. For everyone. If a kid is born disabled, they are automatically entitled to SSI.
What does a child need a monthly check for? Where does this money go? Those payments start at birth and end at death. A constant drain on the limited resources of the public funds.

Everybody, disabled or not, has to bite the bullet in these horrible economic times. After all, these programs are not being eliminated, the cash that is fed to them is simply being cut.

Take a look at this story. What was left for the clients of Manatee Rural Health after hundreds of thousands of dollars of expenditures of extremely questionable merit.

Also... the company (a non profit) discussed in the article the OP links us to serves about 200 people.
On a 3 million dollar budget. That equates to about $150,000.00 PER PERSON SERVED.
$150k per person. Over 10 years, it appears they were given 300 million dollars.

The High Cost of Raising an Autistic Child | WSPA

http://www.bothhandsandaflashlight.c...ism-disparity/

These are not the type of people who can up and get a $100k job!

A speech therapy session costs $900 for 45 minutes! You do the math on that and tell me how someone on a $40k job can afford that, I won't even mention lower pay scales, please remember that disabled children are not requested by parents when they get pregnant!

Ohh, and BTW Employers do not offer health care plans that cover that, a few employers offer some plans but unless they have over 50 employees, they will NOT offer it.

Yoiu missed a zero there. (no comment on whether it was on purpose) It's actually $15,000 per person served.v As for the rank and file employees, an aide in those kinds of programs is doing v. well if they make $10/hour plus health insurance.

Just thank your lucky stars that you weren't born disabled.

Ask anyone else with a mentally retarded and or other disabled in their family about this.

I'm pretty much done with the political posts, it's gotten to the point where this stuff has me in tears. What's going to happen to these people? They have no place to go. They can't pull up their bootstraps and suck it up. They CAN'T. They will die homeless and alone, while holier-than-thou people driving by assume they were too lazy to take care of themselves. Spring Hillian, what do you expect them to do? Go out and get a job on their own? Maybe there is too much money at the top and that's the problem, but there is a better way to do this. This is WRONG.

This is the most insulting post I've read! "babysitting the disabled", so what should the Gov do? kill them? are you freakin out of your mind?

Not all of them are able to work and provide for themselves and why would you then mingle them with the people on welfare in getto's who DON'T want to work? There is HUGE difference between a disabled person and one that refuses to work!

WELFARE should be restructured and directed to the people who are physically UNABLE to work! (the name implies it) unlike it is now where people on welfare are fat as they can be and suck at the system! these are two VERY different things!

Nobody gives a hoot about people like us who have disabled in their families.

They also take VERY MUCH for granted their own good health and whatever $$ in the bank and earning potential that the disabled just cannot have.

As far as many of those critics are concerned those disabled are not human beings and they may as well croak.

Sad really.
