AVOID Lehigh Acres !!!!!!
I lived in Cape Coral for 7 years, close to Lehigh! High Crime, Nothing but rednecks, for the most part. It's one on the least walkable cities in the country. Lots of brush fires come late winter and early spring. Your 18 year old daughter will hate you! There is nothing for young people

I agree - there's no sound financial reason to buy now. You'd end up with more money in your pocket if you wait. (btw, don't forget you're going to pay taxes on that rental income, IF anyone wants to vacation in a house and area like you are describing.)

Looking at zillow and trulia.com are misleading. Try reactor.com for far more accurate and current results. Zillow is a decent tool for seeing comps in the neighborhood once you have an address to start with.

But, after reading your OP a second time, I can't figure out why you are moving to Florida in the first place.

St. Petersburg is one of my favorite cities in America, so I can't recommend it enough unless you're looking for a huge yard.

The Melbourne area has the better schools and more to do in my opinion. I would recommend beachside (Indialantic and Melbourne Beach) if budget allows as the schools are best there and is very safe.
