It was more of a rant than a jump. I let my anger get the best of me. But seriously is there any sense at all in decommissioning one of the greatest reusable spacecrafts of all time, especially when we don't have anything to replace it? So maybe we outsource to another country that has a space shuttle, cause that's the answer! Outsourcing! Whoopee!!

DH has said the same thing many times......I sure dont see the logic behind the decommissioning.

Sorry, its city-data shorthand for Dear Husband, who works for Lockheed.
He is a member of the United Aerospace Workers union, which has been scrambling to help laid-off workers find jobs.

I mean the most sensible thing we've ever had in the space program, and we're just going to decommission it? To do what? Launch pre 1960's technology rockets that break up in stages and have to be parachuted into the ocean? I guess we're no longer a first world country!
It was the Endeavor's last launch but Atlantis will be launching in July. You have another chance.

Nation has to live within its means, just like you and I. If we can't afford to spend billiions/trillions on this part of the national space program, time to put it mothballs until we can. Feel sorry for the workers affected by the decision.

The planned life of the space craft is up, they are working on a new system that sends cargo and astronauts up in 2 separate vehicles, a regular rocket like a Saturn 5 for the payload and a much smaller vehicle for the passengers that will be able to take off and land from regular runways..
