Hi all,
I have a potential job in Gainesville, but my girlfriend's line of work would force her to work in Jacksonville or Orlando. Are there any nice communities that would give us a fairly equidistant commute betwen Gainesville and either Jacksonville or Gainesville? Looking for information as soon as you all can provide it. Thanks!

Not really a good option here unless you are fine with living in a pretty small/country town in between.

Its interesting that there really isn't an interstate between Gainesville and Jacksonville, so such commutes consist of some slower roads. US 301 is one of the best. I say that because if it one of the only 4 lane roads that connects Gainesville and Jacksonville. That would put you in Starke. It is a very small town and most people who live there work for one of the half dozen prisons in the surrounding area. Good Luck!

Orlando and Gainesville just won't work unless you enjoy hellish 90 minute one way commutes. In that case, I'd look into the area around the villages but that's mainly a retirement community.

You can try greencove springs. maybe 60 minutes - 75 minutes to gainesville and not too bad to jacksonville.

Keystone Hts is a good half way point between Gainesville and Jax.

It will be a rough commute in any event especially if the job is on the far side of town in Jax or Gainesville

Gainesville/Orlando would be easier driving but it would involve tolls for the turnpike.

My advice would be to settle in the town with the best job and let the other person find another job in the same town.

Those commutes would be tough and with gas at about 3.90 per gal, the cost of commuting, and the time involved plus the maintenance on two cars would be considerable. You would be better off with one of you working for less with a normal commute.

From Gainseville its 80 miles to Jax or 125 to Orlando..
I'd move to Palatka where you'll both have a 40 mile commute to Jax and Gainseville.
I'd say Orlando is a little to far as if you got a place half way its going to be a long congested commute of 60ish miles twice a day.

It is sad, but the places that will be convenient for you are not great places to live. Palatka is awful and Starke is not much better. Middleburg may be a good option. My patients tell me it is about as far for them to drive to Gainesville as it is to drive to Jacksonville.

We have a house for rent/sell in Hollister which is outside Palatka on Hwy 20. We have really enjoyed this property. It is very quiet and pretty and we go to Palatka or Gainesville for more social events. There are lots of bike trails, hiking and springs in this area. For a small town, Palatka has some amazing theatre. No traffic or pollution. Been a great place to be.
