Default rural towns near Tallahassee?

What are the best of the rural little towns surrounding Tallahassee?

We need something with one or two acres (or more), inexpensive, even if it has to be a doublewide, zoned agricultural, and within 45 mins. commute from the capitol.

Trying to avoid ol'boy and backwoods mentality.

Thanks

We are moving to the Bristol area in Liberty county. There is a lot to look at there and prices are not bad. You have to remember though that prices are good (low) because there is no big rush to move there, it is not for everybody. For us though it is just what we have been looking for. Blountstown is also worth a look. I really feel blessed because my wants and needs put me in a market that most are not interested in.

Monticello (east of Tallahassee) may be worth a look.

Have you looked for property on the outskirts of Tallahassee on the northeast side? There is a lot of beautiful, rolling green hilly farmland out there, not much development, and you are only about 20 miles from downtown or 25 from the airport. I live near there and unless I feel like going into town, it is pretty much like living in the country -- only not nearly as "redneck", whatever that means to you.*

*I hear tell that some think having a Southern accent qualifies you as a redneck, even if you are driving a golf cart at the country club on your day off as a neurosurgeon.

You might want to check out Wakulla County--Crawfordville, St. Marks, a few other small towns there. I can't speak for sure about how those towns are, but the surrounding scenery is pretty nice, with both Wakulla Springs and the Gulf of Mexico.

Would you like to be near the coast line? In Carabelle and Applachicola
there is a main county road that runs into Tallahassee.
Applachicola is olde town with stores and restaurants.

I have to echo what the people above are saying about Carabelle, Apalachicola, Panacea, etc.

It is a beautiful area, much of it is contiguous with the Apalachicola National Forest, and it hasn't (yet) been ruined by overdevelopment. And if you need to go to "town", Tallahassee is less than an hour from any of these places. Many people I know live down near the coast and work in Tallahassee.

They get the same commute as some poor sod living in LA or DC, only their drive is through forests and nice canopy roads instead of a 12 lane freeway stocked with crazies.
