Yes there are today's codes to adhere to..
But quality w/many contractors has taken a back seat to speed & profits..
Sad, but true..

Builders are artists and to be a good one you need to not only be able to discover a problem, but also be able to improve it, solve it, or find a way to cover it up so no one else sees it. The general rule: "Out of mind, out of sight." If discovered later they always, "It didn't happen during construction. You must have altered it someway!" Keep a close eye on all things during construction, ask questions, and make your concerns known.

Holiday Builders do build a good home!
You run a risk of construction defects no matter what builder you decide to go with, less expensive or expensive. I work at a law firm and have dealt with several construction defect cases, some of which are for million dollar homes and you would not believe the mistakes that are made on such expensive homes. I own a Holiday Builders home and am extremely happy with my home. Yes, you may have a problem with a window and other minor things but their homes are well built. And they have two years of warranty on anything in the home which is great. Once you contact them about anything that is wrong they go out and get it fixed as soon as possible. I could't disagree more with the person that commented that Holiday Builders is just as bad as Moronda Homes. Moronda Homes are terrible. The finish of their homes are terrible in quality and you will even find uneven walls in their model homes. Holiday Builders build a good home and if I were you I would go ahead and purchase the Morro Bay that you fell in love with. Keep on top of the construction manager and visit the site as often as possible and you should be fine with the exception of some minor defects that are easily fixed and like I said Holiday does have a 2 year warranty. That is an extra year than most builders out there.

Cant you buy a ready built home? That way you can inspect them all and pass on the ones built with a slight defect, perhaps a bump in the floor, a dent in the wall, a few shingles broken from the roof, etc.
I assume you guys left s. Cali because you couldnt afford anything and the rent was sucking you dry! Is 205k not affordable? There are lots of 150k houses in Ocala and you can find some small ones outside city limits for high 5 figures.

Diamante
We just bought a Diamante closing the end of this month. Holiday Builders is about one month ahead of schedule in our particular development. Our walk-through was just the other day. It's absolutely amazing. The tile work is beyond perfect and I am very picky about tile work. They did well on the details in every room.
So far we are very pleased with every aspect of our new home and they have been very responsive for the area we bought in. I can't vouch for other places since we only visited one other site on the West Coast of Florida. Viera Holiday Medallion series homes is where we bought. We talked to neighbors and they all had excellent things to say about Holiday as well. So we got a pretty good vibe right from the beginning.
The warranty covers you on just about everything and any fixes usually happen right away. Remember, you can find an issue with ANY home. Just make sure you have a warranty and that you have an inspection done by someone certified and reputable (get your own inspector)!

These builders build homes for lower income families. Not poor but those who need affordable houses. The areas they build in I would never want to live in. I am a working class person too, but those neighborhoods are not the best.
