Car Insurance
I didn't know where to put this, so i figured, i'm in FL and might as well ask here.
Anyone have teens? I'm talking 16 going on 17 in November. I'm trying to find a car insurance for a kid, and i don't know which company would be the cheapest, and should i have him on my policy or have his own. We currently have 3 cars insured with Allstate, i had my BF speaking with them and they said it would pretty much double if we add my son to the policy, plus, i'll have to get another vehicle for myself, as i'm giving my old one to my son.
Also, Alstate said if he gets his own policy, it would be about 80% more then if he would be as a driver added to our poicy. So, i'm looking for at least 4K a year on insurance for 4 cars.
So, has anyone had any luck with teen drivers and insurance being more less decent?
Thanks for any info.

No matter where you go it will always be cheapest to have them on your policy. Does your son have good grades? There are discounts for that with most companies. I work for an insurance company here in Central Florida that is very competitive. I would suggest getting quotes from at least 3 companies. Good Luck! (Pm me if you would like a quote from my company)

Normally the best deal is the same company that you insure the rest of your vehicles. The best approach is to list your son as a restricted driver (always accompany by an adult) and don't place him to a vehicle.
Have your son complete the summer school driver training, complete the drug & alcohol test, and provide his grades (A & B's always translates to lower premiums)
If this don't help out, look for another insurance company and see what they offer. I did not allow my son to drive on his own until he proved that he was a proven driver. Lots of responsibilities on the parents by placing a 16 year old as a full time driver.....

If you have any military connections, I found USAA to be the most reasonable and they do NOT use your driving experience.
Since we are coming back to the USA and my husband had let his US drivers license expire we were getting quoted huge rates from everyone. I have never had a US drivers license as my experience is all from Canada.
Lesson learned for us, always keep your US drivers license up to date if you leave the country with the intentions of returning.
My husband is in the Air Force reserves and this qualified him for USAA.
Best of luck.

No matter what, make him earn the money to pay for the expense of the car and insurance.

Thank you. We've been wth Alstate for almost 10 years, all our cars insured there. I know about Good Student option here in FL, I'll have to check into this. He's on permit right now and he'll be getting his license in November. He's is a good driver. I started teaching him how to drive when he was 12. Of course, not on the busy road, etc.
