Post Florida Publix offers 7 prescription antibiotics for free

Giving back to the people>>>>
Raising the ante on super-bargain drugs at discount stores, Publix began giving away seven of its least expensive but most prescribed generic antibiotics Monday.

With Florida Gov. Charlie Crist at their side, supermarket officials announced that the chain would not charge for an unlimited number of 14-day supplies for consumers with valid prescriptions, even if they have drug coverage through health insurance.

The seven antibiotics now free at Publix include amoxicillin, cephalexin, ciprofloxacin, sulfamethoxazole/trimethoprim, penicillin VK, ampicillin and erythromycin. Those represent 50 percent of the generic prescriptions for children at the supermarket chain. They are used to combat infections in the ears, lungs, sinuses and the urinary tract.

I wonder how long they are going to offer this...Publix is usually pretty good at giving back to the people. Even with insurance some of those antibiotics are between $10-$20. I think that will be great, especially if you have young children.

Publix will fill as many 14-day supplies as the doctor prescribes, with no annual limit, Hendricks said. The offer is good at stores in five states, including those among the 240 in South Florida that have pharmacies. Publix will not bill customers or their insurers.

Publix Pharmacy ranks highest in J.D. Power and Associates study.

With an overall score of 851 points, Publix ranks highest in the supermarket segment in a study that evaluated the following factors: non-pharmacist staff, competitiveness of pricing, convenience, store layout and design, medication availability and information, and pharmacist.
Publix received the highest numerical score among supermarket pharmacies in the proprietary J.D. Power and Associates 2007 Retail Pharmacy Satisfaction StudySM. Study based on 6,543 total responses, and measures 8 supermarkets. Proprietary study results are based on experiences and perceptions of customers surveyed Oct.-Nov., 2006. Your experiences may vary.

I think this is great. Sure it will not last forever, but competition is good for the overall community. I dread the day that WalMart is the last thing standing due to the fact that they knock out their competition due to prices, etc.

Our RX co-pay is $10. I'd love to save that money if possible.

Penicillin & amoxicillin are some of the most prescribed drugs & for the time being, this can only help people; especially those on fixed incomes and those with children.

I'm more & more of a fan of Publix every week. I know I pay in the area of $10-$25 more a week than if I went to Super WalMart, but it is well worth it.

Publix has always been a good corporate citizen for Florida. They truly are a company our state can be proud of.
