I am planning to move to the Northwest area, as soon as I graduate and get a job, probably next year. I have searched without any luck, I want to be near attractions but with 1-2 acres, good school system for 9yo, Medical facilities close as my career is medical oriented. Looking to buy $150-180k home in a nice neighborhood. I am married w/ 1 child. Any suggestions?

With good schools as a limiter, you're probably thinking Tallahassee, greater Ft. Walton Beach, and Santa Rosa County. I don't know Tallahassee, so will let someone else fill you in. You're got going to find what you want in terms of housing at that price in Ft. Walton Beach/Okaloosa County unless you essentially go up close to the Alabama border, and that's a long commute to most jobs unless you end up at the hospital in Crestview.

I'd probably focus on the Milton-Pace area to live because it gets you an acceptable commute to Pensacola to work while putting you into a good schools area with more reasonable housing costs.

Just out of curiosity is Tallahassee North West Florida or actually North Central Florida? As I think of Pensacola, Destin or Panama City as North West and Tallahassee as more North Central. I am in Jacksonville which is definitely North East Florida. And I do agree Tallahassee is a beautiful area of the state. But if your not in a government related field, jobs are hard to come by. And if your in an elected position, they're hard to hold on to as well.

The Panhandle either starts just east of Tallahassee or at the Apalachicola River/Central time zone boundary depending on who you talk to but it's not something anyone really feels the need to debate strongly about.

As of a couple months ago when I saw it last Tallahassee had one of the lowest unemployment rates in FL.
