Hi. I am in the process of emptying my Mom's house in Maitland, and my stepfather built a harpsichord from a kit. Rather than moving the delicate instrument again back to my house in NY, my sister and I would be more than happy to give it to someone or a group that would love and care for it. It does have a few keys loose, but it has a bunch of extra parts and tools and strings, along with the instructions. Any ideas where we can donate this, or give to someone? I've tried emailing several orchestra and music groups and haven't heard back. If you are interested in it, please PM me. If you have suggestions, please post them. Thank you

Harpsichord music is so beautiful!

I would love to have one in my home and can imagine, if I had one, not only how enjoyable and uplifting it would be for me to play it, but also ways that others could share it too (for instance, people with more talent than I have giving recitals and maybe lessons). But unfortunately I'm not settled in a permanent home with room for it, so I have to pass.

I just wanted to post to say how thoughtful and generous it is of you and your sister to want to ensure this harpsichord finds its way to someone who will appreciate and be grateful for it. For the right person (or organization), it is a treasure. I hope you find them.

If you don't get responses here, you may want to consider asking a mod to move this thread to the general Florida forum. It would certainly be well worth a long drive for someone who loves harpsichords.

You might contact the Catholic Diocese of Orlando. They may be able to use it in one of their churches. You could then count it as a charitable donation as well.

I'm hoping you've found someone by now, but if not, a thought I just had is that some senior (55+) communities in Florida are large enough that they have clubs/groups within their homeowners' associations that are for people with very specific interests, including things like a classical music group, a choral group, even a keyboard instruments group. They may know of someone who would want a harpsichord (seniors in such communities may have the space in their homes, may have the intention to possibly not ever move again, may have the time to devote to playing, may even know people in their communities who play flute, violin, etc. for duets and other ensemble playing).

I don't feel comfortable posting the names of specific communities that I have no personal association with on the Internet, but if you're still looking and want to try this route, send me a direct message, and I'll share ones I've come across.
