After much traveling up and down both coasts, I have decided on Longboat Key and have purchased a town home there (renovations more $$ than hoped). I had ruled out Sarasota initially because each time I went to look at homes there, we ended up caught in traffic. Hence, living outside the city in a quiet pet-friendly community with pedestrian and bike paths, but having access, even via bicycle, has resolved that issue. I have been warned about the traffic on the island during tourist season, but hope that some resolutions are on the horizon (can you drive a golf cart on the pedestrian path?). I decided against St. Pete's because of my desire for direct ocean access, and felt St. Pete Beach just wasn't a right fit. I like that there is an airport nearby and cultural activities in all directions. Unfortunately there isn't direct access for paddleboarding in my community but I have found nearby options. I even found a hook up for an electric car which I have never seen in Miami. I just hope that the place remains environmentally conscious. It is so relaxing there I am considering taking a longer break from medicine! I move there in October and look forward to getting familiar with my surroundings and involved with the community. Any suggestions are welcomed.

Congratulations, doc. I think you'll come to like that area very much, and you'll even get to love Sarasota once you become familiar with the traffic workarounds. I think you made a good choice and will be an asset to the community.
