Need to get out of Miami! Where else in FL??
I am a young professional with extensive experience in banking and corporate finance (treasury-related). My wife currently works in the wire room for a bank in Miami, but has more experience with administrative and assistant duties.
We live in Miami (close to downtown) and this place BLOWS! Too congested, noone speaks english, rude inconsiderate drivers, etc. We are desperate to leave within the next two years to somewhere that is less like Miami. My highest concern is jobs. Where can a treasury analyst and an administrative professional find work in other Florida cities/towns?
We don't mind commuting to a big city, but the drive needs to be like 10-30 minutes. Are there any quiet towns with affordable housing within proximity to another metropolitan area in Florida? Also, what are the salaries like in other cities? More/less/the same as Miami?
Any input is much appreciated!!

I would say lurk, search, and pose questions in the Jacksonville and Tampa forums, those are your two best bets in Florida.
I believe Jacksonville is noted as a bank back-office operations center, this may be suitable for your wife.
Raymond James is headquartered in Tampa, but I'm not sure how your experience meshes with fund underwriting & management and personal financial services (a few weeks ago there was a brief thread on Raymond James, do a search on it).
Outside of Florida in the southeast, try Houston, maybe Atlanta, and I believe a major national bank is headquartered in North Carolina.
Good luck!

Anything north of Miami has got to be better. Try Boca, Delray Beach, Deerfield, Margate. If you want to help build a town look into Brooksville, Spring Hill, Port Richey etc. They all speak English up there and there's lots of room to roam and are bedroom communities of Tampa.

Hey there. Banking capitol of the South East is Charlotte, NC and Raleigh comes in close second. If you want to stay in Florida stick to major metro areas and cities. Tampa is a nice choice for Miamians as it has similar weather/tropical feel.

That is the only thing Charlotte has going for it. 3 years ago, a few of my friends moved up there. They are now moving back and are taking a $10k a year cut in pay because they say the city was as boring as a "bag of rocks" (their words). I told them it was not an entertainment type place.....
