You know what, no state is perfect. Every single state has its problems. There are millions of people who actually love Florida and think it's a great place to live. I have lived here my whole life and I wouldn't move. Florida is a lot more than just "bugs, hot weather, hurricanes, crime etc". It has the most beautiful beaches in the world, gorgeous sunsets, theme parks, great entertainment, culture, universities, dining. There is always something to do here and it is a state that has an abundance of state parks if you like the outdoors. We have no state income tax, no heating bills, no need for winter clothing etc.. So you can really look for things to complain about no matter where you live. Everyone has their own personal needs of where they want to live so maybe Florida is not for everyone, but there are plenty that love it here, travel here and want to move here.

maybe they have a valid point and you haven't lived here and don't know what's going on. You shouldn't really say that it is worse in the northeast......there are people way poorer than you in Florida and people with more money than you also....it all depends on where you live
You're statement doesnt change the fact that i probably am poorer than you (while using my moms computer at 29 years old) along with alot of other people from Florida ....Your statements wouldn't be valid in all of the lower-middle class areas in Florida or even the regular middle class (not high end middle class.... regaular)
My girlfriend is from Long Island NY and said that the pay here sucks and she wants to go back......if you ain't got a degree down here you won't be making enough to afford to live on your own in a studio in most places.....I am single and still live at home (i tryed a roomate but it was disgusting so i chose to go back with my mother) i am 29 years old working delivering pizzas...i bring home about 22k a year ...you know what places i can rent down here by myself and make it without living in a housing project somewhere?.....since you know more about Florida then people who live here then tell me where i can live on my salary without having to live with my mother anymore?

Well, the reason me and my family moved here was to get out of New York City. We were tired of the Cold, Crime, and was looking for some place warm to settle. If there was a perfect State, with perfect weather, salary, home rates, and people, we would be the first to go there! But the reality is, there isn't.
Florida, like any other State has it's pro's and con's. We knew we were going to have a cut in pay when we came here, the weather was going to be hot, and it would be a lot slow paced from where we came from. But at that time, back in the 90's, it was a great choice for us and we have no complaints. Our children could actually play outside without having to run into trouble like today.
Yes, Florida has gotten expensive and overly crowded and diversed, but we deal with it. What I don't understand is this..with all this advanced technology..why don't people use it to inform them about places they plan to relocate to..Why move to a place where you know the pay is low..depending on your type of job and education..with us, this is not the case. But, people should plan ahead before moving somewhere and end up hating it.
Before we moved, we visited Florida for one month. We visited Orlando, Kissimmee, Sandford, Lake Mary, and Coco Beach. We asked tons of questions, visited schools, parks, shopping stores, and police stations and recieved accurate info. When we made our decision to move, we knew exactly what we were getting into and I do not regret it.
I think, if people are so unhappy with Florida...simply move..don't complain about it because it is going to be what it is...

The problem with people like the original poster and other transplants is that they move to Florida without any true appreciation for the place other than their postcard ideals--the beaches, the sunshine, the palm trees, the warm winters.
Yes, Florida has beaches, sunshine, palm trees and warm winters. But it also has other stuff that comes with the package--hurricanes, humidity, insects, and alligators (although I personally think alligators are pretty cool). If someone moving to Florida recognizes that the latter is the trade off as part of getting the benefits of the former, you'll appreciate this state a whole lot more. I'm not a native Floridian, I'm from Maryland originally, but when I came to Florida I came to appreciate everything about this state, even the things that some transplants like our original poster whine and complain about. So it's hot and humid during the summer? Big deal--so is basically everywhere along the east coast. Hurricanes will happen, but if you're prepared you'll be okay. And the bugs and the alligators are just part of the natural ecosystem--they were here a lot longer before we were.
Maybe the original poster will be a lemming and go buy a house in Tennessee or North Carolina or Arkansas or wherever Erik Estrada is hawking homes. Hell, I'd think pretty soon they'll be offering lots of lands in Siberia as the next idyllic paradise and people will be dumb enough to buy into the sales pitch.
Bottom line is, you move to a new place, you've got to appreciate everything that makes the place unique, not just the ideal selling points. Trust me, you'll be a lot more happier and spend a lot less time on the internet telling people what a miserable person you are.

I miss the change of seasons, I miss a cold Christmas. Not going out in shorts on Christmas and Thanksgiving like here. It will take getting used to, but I will get used to cold again.
I have no love for Florida anymore...

What town are you moving to in the western part of Mass that is pretty reasonable to live ?

Making over $50K a year is rich?
That's the Area Median Income for my county....in other words, middle middle class.

These people are amazing to me. They see one little part of the state and generalize ad nauseam.
If you couldn't find a nice place to live in Florida, then you didn't look hard enough.
