Amen....tying things up, gone soon, but not soon enough.
.....and yes, I will enjoy that palm tree hitting me in the a$$ on the way out, wooooo hooooooo, cause.................... FLORIDA SUCKS
No I really do not have a hatred, just not working out for me, just tired of people say that Florida is great because:
1. I have a job
2. I have a house
3. I have a pool
4. I have a boat and whatever temporary thing in life
Reality:
Job market is bad
Housing market is bad
Laws and enforcement are lacking
Health system is lacking
Customer service is lacking
Banks are lacking
and like I said I can go on for days
I love the weather and the bugs and lizards don't bother me one iota, but there is WAY more to life than a job, house and what ever superficial thing. You can have a job and house anywhere, but if you're not happy, you're not and when you aren't you going to state it in big ways.....if those who love Florida don't like it, well that's tough because everyone has a right to dislike something and state it even if it is negative and frowned upon.

I guess you can call me "mustgetoutageorgia".
1. I have a job.
It's based in Atlanta, but I work off my laptop in Florida.
2. I have a house.
The one in Georgia is paid off, the first house in Florida is rented, the second house in Florida is where I am sipping a Mojito right now.
3. I have a pool.
Well, it's call the Gulf of mexico and it's a 3 minute walk. Haven't had to change the filter yet.
4. I have a boat and whatever temporary thing in life.
Don't have a boat, all my neighbors have them. I go for rides, no maintence. Everything thing else I have owned is temporary as long as I can use them. Yee Haa!
Just keep plugging away at it and you can save enough to live where you want. I don't care where it is. Seems like there is a lot of people in this forum that think the other side of the fence has greener grass. You will find the same troubles everywhere. Just live your life and do the best you can and don't expect a big ol' magical spark to change your life.
The spark starts with YOU.

I understand that there are real problems in Florida but when people move there and then complain about the heat it's a bit much. And then people also complain that they can't find decent jobs in smaller cities like Ft. Myers and sarasota--what did you expect?

Lets get back to the original post: > Why do people like this place?
For some reason the thread turned to Why do people don't like this place. If you want to create a new post why people don't like Florida to present your views, please do so and post your feeling.
For many Florida is a great place and provide everything from employment, education, a home, family, etc... I have a great job, enjoy life, travel, live in a great community and I called my area a paradise. But if this place will not support my needs and a better job offer was presented to me I will move ASAP. I can't blame the state if the job that I have does not provide sufficient money to pay for my toys (cars, house, etc), maybe I have to make changes and adjust to the reality and stop living with the Jones (my opinion).
This state is not required to provide anything to anyone, is up to the individuals to achieve his or hers goals.

I have been here for 12 years and thankfully I will be out of here in 3 days. I loved Florida when I first came, but it went steadily downhill from there. I first lived in Orlando in 1995, it was great...for a couple years. Then I steadily got more and more less fond of Florida. Too hot, unless you lived on the equator it's too humid and the air is just NASTY. I tried Melbourne, not bad there. Vero Beach is nice. I'll tell you what... Naples is the crappiest city here, they act like it is the best place on earth... YA IF YOU ARE A MILLIONARE!!!! Otherwise it sucks. Fort Myers is surely becoming a miami(crime). I'm just glad to go. I'm sure I will get responses from people saying "one less person" or "good, go" I don't care, you can have this crap hole state...

hmmm I think it is more like freedom of speech. The freedom to speak your mind, I hate chocolate ice cream, is that childish?
I love how people who find there "niche" become when for some horrible reason (health, loss of employment, etc) causes them no longer to be able to afford a home with a pool, their boat, frequenting their favorite watering hole, etc. How about in 20 years when it is time to retire and cannot afford food because of meds, or your $500 mortgage has doubled because of taxes and insurance? Too many people look at the present but not the future.
The job market.........horrible
Cost of living........horrible
Housing..........horrible
Some people may find jobs here, but are they being paid anywhere near what they should.....NOPE
Anyone who says the job market is fine because they have a job is just sadly ignorant, lose that job and tell us how great it is.
I do not think most people realize just what a huge trickle down effect a bad housing market has on the economy.

Very much agreed on the housing and pay scale situation. I was actually getting out of debt when I lived in Arkansas. Now i'm back in debt cause of the crappy wages and high rent.

Thanks
6 years ago my husband and I were researching Texas and Florida....I know people who moved to Texas and he had family in Florida, so I let him win. We have had horrible renting nightmares and these places aren't worth what you pay for them. Houses in both states were about the same price 150k for a 3000sqft home, Texas has barely moved from that, yet Florida trippled; although we sold our house in MA we have been waiting for the market to come down and now that it has, we are all set with Florida. We find the people for the most part are petty, immoral, selfish, unethical, crooked and not very competent and you can see by the posters here that I am pretty much right....you say "I don't like it here".....they tell you that you don't like it here because you are broke and what ever other insult they can throw at ya...and then if you insult them back they go crying to the moderators....the good ole boys club here in Florida apparently can't wipe their bums on their own.
This will probably get deleted for being off topic, but who really cares.
