My family has decided to go to the warm weather in Port Orange. We have visited there, we know there are fabulous schools, we are wondering how bad the taxes and HOI are. The house we like seems to be in a flood zone, im sure that will come into play, any answers? Our house that we like costs $329,000. I am a permanent makeup artist from NY, and my husband is a handyman/car dealer/auto mechanic/contractor(he wears many hats!) We are just wondering if we will have any problem finding work. We have two kids that are 9&10. We want to research everything before we uproot them. We need advice!!

Stay away from homes that are in flood zones. They will require additional flood insurance added to your HOI,required by the lender and it can be expensive.Taxes and HOI are on the rise, but nothing compared to NY of course.

The big mistake that people make in moving to FL is that they bring their debt with them, then make less money than they are accustomed to.Your dollar can be worth more here but you need to come hear with low debt and at least 20% in savings for a down payment on a house.

Jobs are not difficult to find but there is not much in Port Orange. Most travel to Daytona or Orlando for work.

I think Port Orange is somewhat overrated--------check surrounding areas and you'll find more reasonable prices and just as high quality of life- and more charm rather than typical suburban growth.

Smile Want to own

I lost both parents this year, ; Would prefer to stay in Volusia County, however I am renting; I would like to buy a place (maybe a mobile etc) Not in Daytona, but North or south. I do not drive so I need good bus routes, close to grocery etc. Could you give me advice on what I should do?

You're going to get a much better response if you make your own thread, rather than asking your own question inside of someone else's thread.

Just a thought...
