Retired military planning ahead: next winter camp at Sigsbee for base of operations (snorkeling, fishing, sailing my trailerable, goofing off) ... not an rv'er ... I have just a mini-van and I live mostly outside in tent and on small boat at anchor ... hate flying insects that want to share my outdoors lifestyle and food ... and my blood. Don't concern myself at all with crawlers ... just with winged marauders: flies, mosquitoes, no-seeum's. November something thru about Jan. Knowledgeable responses appreciated.

I have used Bounce....that great fabric softener...just a sheet or two...one in a top pocket or tied to a belt loop...the other perhaps tied to my sandal...sounds strange but works...keeps those little blood suckers off you...it also works great for keeping the bed bugs out of your luggage...apparently they don't like the smell of it...let me know if it works for you..

Thanks Rusty ... I actually do know about (and use) the Bounce trick ... it is less than perfect but better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick for sure. That said, it doesn't even faze flies who think egalitarian when it comes to sharing my lunch and supper.

Cool Listerine

I have not used this old wive's tale for several years now......but one vacation down in South Carolina, Hilton Head, an elderly couple recommended the original flavor Listerine......you put it in a spray bottle and simply spray it on your skin...the odor will eventually dissipate on you...but the little blood suckers seem to avoid you for several hours......I no it works on the green flies for I eventually had to apply it when on the beach...it was a little chilly for the no-seem-ums so I am not sure about them...but ya got nothing to lose by trying it...

I have heard a steady diet of garlic will repel the little suckers as well...but too much and you will be repelling everyone else around you as well...

The time frame you are looking at is not too bad for bugs. Best thing you can do is have a portable fan going at night if possible - it keeps them away pretty well. I have only got a couple mosquito bites this winter, but I live in the upper keys.
