I am looking to move to Florida and would like to get a 3 bedroom beachfront home. I am not interested in a condo or townhouse- I want a freestanding home, directly on the beach.

One area that seems pretty affordable is panama city / destin - I have found a few places around 600-700k ( for instance, zillow.com/homedetails/5919-Windy-Ln-Port-Saint-Joe-FL-32456/66708184_zpid/

If you are willing to spend up to a million, you can get some nice places as well : zillow.com/homedetails/19907-Front-Beach-Rd-Panama-City-Beach-FL-32413/42805103_zpid

I would love to be in the naples or miami area, but something tells me that there wont be any areas that you can get a beachfront home for under 1m near there.

I am retired and can really move anywhere, not too hung up on needing any one thing (besides the beachfront part of course)

The only place where there are single family homes in Miami Dade county is in Golden beach which is very close to Broward county and very expensive. The rest of the beaches are lined with hotels & condos.
Have you thought about the St. Augustine area? Not sure what the price are but they have a lot of beachfront homes too.

You actually have a lot of options available. I would probably choose Daytona Beach because you aren't hours away from the nearest major city. Orlando is only a 30-45 minute drive away. If you want a more secluded small town, I'd suggest the St. Augustine area.

Actually St Augustine is about 30-45 minutes from Jacksonville, which is a larger city than Orlando.

I agree. Check out Vilano Beach, St Augustine Beach and Crescent Beach.

Jacksonville Metro is much smaller than Orlando Metro though.
