Default Florida Pets

I was sure if I should post this in the pets forums or here. So sorry if it in the wrong place.

I am moving to Florida next spring!!!! I cant wait. I lived there in Treasure Island and Largo for a couple of yrs and loved it and am so excited about getting back

Anyway I work in my home bording/daycare for dogs. I recently started doing this and the business is really great.

I was wondering if there would likey be the same amount of business there? THis is not our main income source. I just started this to help a bit and I was really surprised at the amount of business I got.

I think your business would work well here. I know a lot of people like to bring their dogs to daycare.

With so many in Florida that travel... yes, your business will do well. At one time I had a kennel and raised 3 breeds, and I only boarded those animals that I sold or placed with customers. I do know you must live on a paved road, and be zoned properly to have a commercial kennel (where I live)... mine was a breeding kennel so I didn't have to be on a paved rd., but make sure about the zoning.

We could use more pet boarding facilities in my area. I don't have a lot of choices when boarding my dog, who is a spoiled, pampered pooch and I am very picky about his accomodations. Yeah I would think you could do well.

Thanks for the responses. It sounds like I could do well there. I do things a little different than many bording facilities. I do have kennels but if the dogs get along with other dogs they get to hang out in our home with our own dogs and then just sleep there at night. If they do not get along so well then we rotate them around so they are not spending a long period of time in a kennel.

My daughter even has a few cute little customers that love my daughter and sleep in her room with her. so we do our best to keep them happy while they are here and we are in this business to make $$ but we also love dogs so they are very well pampered

I would think the doggie day care business would do well anywhere! Would you also provide grooming? My first Lhasa used to love to get groomed, he would get so excited because he loved the groomer. It was the funniest thing! Good Luck! What other businesses do people think would do well? I was thinking maybe something for children as far as an activity, like a plastercraze. What does everyone think.

I agree with others that this could work out well.

"I do have kennels but if the dogs get along with other dogs they get to hang out in our home with our own dogs and then just sleep there at night. If they do not get along so well then we rotate them around so they are not spending a long period of time in a kennel."

My only question would be, where do you have the kennels?
Outside here in Florida would be a problem.

We are going on vacation and it will end up costing us $500 to board all 3 dogs.

There is probably a need for your service but the host of problems running a business legally from your home like that would have to be huge. Starting with zoning, licensing, code enforcement, the health department, insurance. Also a problem with your homesteading, you may find yourself being classified as a commercial establishment causing your taxes to go up. Not to mention you are only one law suit away from disaster wiping you out. Not being homesteaded your home would not be protected and could go on the block to settle a law suit. My imagination runs wild with all the possible problems. A lot to consider.

The first step would be to see if you can even run any kind of business out of your house where you are moving much less a kennel. Many cities offer home office licenses, I have one in Broward county, but it is very strict. I can't have any employes of have any clients come to the house or carry any stock. Basically I pay $190 a year for my desk a computer hook up and a place to hang my license.

They are in the basement. they are 6 x 6 comfy kennels. they are in a finished bedroom in the basement. I put a vinal type piece under them. I am not taking in tons of dogs. I only watch smaller breed dogs and will take up to 6 at a time.

I did not check any zoning laws. I did not think I needed too. Have not had any problems yet. It is simple as far as I can see. I love dogs I need extra money and I watch a them in my home. I know people watch kids or cut hair or do nails in thier homes all the time so I did not think it was a big deal. I was actually thinking after my 5th child goes to school to open up a place outside of my home. I figured then it might get a bit more complicated.

Do you have a licence and pay taxes on the earnings? Do you file a sales tax return with the department of revenue? There is not a city in this country that will let you run any kind of business without a license and unregulated. OFF topic
