A friend & I may relocate to Florida. I will likely work in Orlando, she will likely work in Daytona. Can anyone suggest communities that will allow for a reasonable commute to both? Words of wisdom are welcomed. Thanks.

Anything in South, or I think it may be called West Volusia County will work. Cities include Deltona, Debary, Deland, Orange City to name a few. All of them are a good compromise in commuting. You may also want to consider that within the next few years, supposedly by 2010, there will be a commuter rail linking Deland and Debary to Downtown Orlando.

Also, for what's it worth, Deland and Orange city are very "Southern" old time Florida where Deltona is basically a suburb of Orlando and has a heavy Hispanic influence. Deltona is also slightly cheaper than the other areas mentioned. Hope that helps.

Thanks. I just went to Winter Park, which I really like. How does Orange City compare? I liked the streets and the ability to walk & bike. It is very clean & I liked the "downtown" although a bit upscale for me - the ambiance is nice.

There is no comparison between Winter Park and Orange City- if you're interested in Quaint, like Winter Park, look at Deland but it's much smaller and less upscale.

However, if you choose to live in Winter Park, the commute to daytona wouldn't entail too much traffic as it would be opposite of the heavy traffic into Orlando.

Depending where the job is in Orlando, a central point would be anywhere from Lake Mary/Heathrow east to Orange City/Deland. Distance from Daytona to Downtown Orlando is about 45 miles.
