As mentioned before - rent first but try to get just a 6 mo rental...you will know if you want to buy that specific home or move to a different area in that amount of time. There are sooooooooo many homes for rent and for sale that you should not have a problem with the 6 mo request - if so move on. You should find some one who will do that. There are some GORGEOUS HOMES for under $200,000 now - some are foreclosers and some are brand new builder homes!! We have a friend who is an inspector and he tells us of some gorgeous homes now available. Some we wished we could get but then we'd have to sell ours - gesh! So this is sad to the sellers but super for the buyers so that is why I suggest rent for just 6 months so you don't miss out on the "deals".....this housing economy WILL CYCLE back up...so be ready...now!

No offense to anyone, but if Palm Coast is paradise, then the North must REALLY suck. I've lived in Ormond Beach (15 mins south of Palm Coast) my whole life and I don't understand the draw to PC. Someone please enlighten me. If you like living in a place that looks like a million identical houses and streets just fell out of the sky and plopped down randomly in the swamp, then more power to you, but I just don't get it. I guess anything is better than yankeeland though...

I'd have to agree with your description. I visited PC last year and found it to be very disappointing. I'm now concentrating my search for upcoming retirement move to the west side of the state.

I'm a teacher here in PC and I guess I see it as everyone has their own "check list" and PC hits the spot for many. I am getting new students all the time here, great families moving in...wanting that FL weather esp. with that easterly breeze from the Atlantic (so much less humid than the Gulf), plus the services are coming in (must admit I want to say FINALLLLLLLLLLLY!)..and sidewalks everywhere to walk, ride bikes, etc. Walking parks everywhere, pools, tennis facility, etc. Sure it can be crowded at times, but show me a town in FL that is not...if so, I'm there! The TOWN CENTER is drawing folks, too - very classy looking, nice shopping coming, and so on. Like someone told me, "whatever floats your boat" - that is so true.

Since Palm Coast has again been the fastest growing metro area in the USA for the 2006/07, something certainly is attracting people to our nice town.
We agree with TeeJay also and we've been here a good amount of time.

I am moving to Palm Coast in 3 weeks. The house that I am moving to is located about 3 blocks from US 1 on the Southwest side of town. The name of the street is Kashmir Trail, is anyone familiar with this area? Is it a safe and nice area to raise a family? I have 2 boys who will attend Bunnell Elementary and Buddy Taylor Middle, are those good schools? Any info is appreciated!

Dawnie,
The K section is convenient because it's closest to Daytona on the south side of Palm Coast. Whether or not it's a good neighborhood, well everything in Palm Coast is exactly the same, so it's as good or as bad as any other neighborhood in PC. Bunnell is the oldest school in Flagler county, but I think it got a "B" last year in the state grading system, which is good. It is currently in the process of being expanded to a K-8 school, and the construction is coming along well. Buddy Taylor is self-proclaimed as "Florida's Best", so whatever that means (It says that over the school entrance). You'll be conveniently located to both Ormond and Bunnell. When in Bunnell, get a sub at E&S Foods, a fish sandwich at the Bantam Chef, and a burger at Redd Gator (not at the same time ) and take a drive on Route 100 west of Bunnell, lots of beautiful farmland, the real Flagler county.

We are moving from Rome, Italy to Palm Beach, as I will be working in downtown WPB. We have a small son and want to live somewhere safe, renting at about $1000 a month. Any suggestions?

I wanna know too!!!
Hello,
I am planning to move to Florida as well I am strongly leaning towards the Palm Coast area. I have heard some negative things about it and am so glad to hear positive things. I see that a couple of people are PMing but I want to hear as much about the area, so if anyone finds out important info from a PM please keep me informed. My friends and family think that I am crazy for just wanting to pack up and leave but I am sooooo ready to go!!! I live in Owings Mills Maryland and have lived in Maryland all of my life; I need a change. I have never been to Florida and chose there because of the warm temp., the kids are excited as well. I have a nails license and my boyfriend does construction so between the two of us we should be able to make something happen. Our kids are still young enough to adjust and we don't own a house here or have a big company that we are leaving behind and most importantly WE ARE NOT GETTING ANY YOUNGER . We were gonna move in August but decided to wait until the first of the year so that we can save some more money just in case things don't go as planned. Good luck to everyone.
