What does the death penalty have to do with being progressive or even civilized ? In my mind, if you deliberately take someone else's life without any regard for the victim's right to live and are convicted by a jury of your peers and sentenced to die, you forfeit your right to exist on this Earth. Why should we put murderers in prison with their own kind for the rest of their lives with 3 squares a day, exercise facilities, library books, TVs, radios, visits from relatives while the victim's family is left with NOTHING ? Because it's cheaper than Death Row ?

Convicted murderers are not civilized or progressive and chose to live by their own rules, not the rules of society.

I thought Christians wanted to hang the Ten Commandments in schools and courtrooms.

Hmmmm... THOU SHALT NOT KILL.

By resorting to firing squads, etc, you are lowering yourself to the level of the criminal.

Heck, why not just torture him to death and broadcast it on TV? The sad thing is, many folks would be ok with that.

PPV? Execution as entertainment? Think how creative the producers could get, we could use football stadiums if people wanted to attend live shows then we could let wild beasts eat the supposed perpetrators,or run over them with various agricultural equipment, maybe the recent killer in California could be run over slowly by a steam roller (Feet first)

This has nothing to do with the death penalty, it has to do with an elected official wasting his time and our money with such frivolous stuff. If this is the height of his ability to act as a law maker then what the heck is he doing there. That is the problem with a democracy, any moron can get elected if they can find enough equally stupid people to vote for them. You don't need any qualification at all. just look at the current crop of politicians. Perry just stated he thought the re voluntary war was fought in the 1500's. The pilgrams were not even here yet , mean time this moron is running for president. Hell this moron is actually the governor of a state.

Oh trust me, I agree. Is it me or has the recent political environment deteriorated to appealing to the lowest common denominator? Scarily it's also seemingly well accepted which makes me truly wonder how dumbed-down this state/country has become.

Look at the list of countries and ask yourself (slowly) what the correlation is between them, think the terms progressive/civilized and capital punishment.
