In order to get insurance you will and you need insurance to get the registration. BTW, PIP is mandatory if you are in Florida for 90 days out of a year.

I believe you can apply for a Florida-only driver's license without having to surrender your California license.

You'd have to check, though, whether the Florida-only license is good for registration and insurance purposes, but I don't see why not.

I believe you "legally..by the Florida DMV handbook" have 10/30 days. Not sure..I came from Cali, too.

I did this when I came from NY. I told them I go back to NY often so I need to keep my license. They'll give u a florida license that's "only good for florida." So make sure you have your cali license when driving outside of Fl.

You can get insurance and registration with a Florida Only license. My husband did this when he bought his car last year. Yes, he kept his NY license for when he goes back to NY.
