I have made more friends in 3 years than in the 30 something I lived up in the frozen tundra, where no one came out of their homes from November 1st until the first thaw in April. .
Wow thats amazing.. I lived there 23 years.. from Day care through highschool graduation. I knew many people in Naples. Never once did I have someone come up to me in Naples during dinner laughing asking where I'm from , or how I'm doing, nor did anyone ever remember my drinks or ice cream preference or any meal preference at any of the shops I regularly visited. So excuse me for finding it a little hard to believe all of that and I'm sure a couple other people. IF anything, I've found the people up north to be much more friendly and accomidating than any person or business I came across in that town

Believe me 4 months is enough. Been there, done that. Especially if you are not from the state and it is a RADICAL change as in the case with the original poster.

Curlytoo, I couldn't have put in better myself. It's about time someone came out of the closet about Naples. I really feel that these Naples haters on these boards should get out into the world and reassess what happiness is for them, because there are few places in this world that can present you the serene beauty, activities, and livelyhood that Naples can.

That appears to be what a lot of being are doing in regards to SW FL in general; except when they leave, they see what serene beauty, activities & livelyhood there is OUTSIDE of SW FL. I've determined the best part of the area is SWFL International Airport b/c you can leave & see just how wonderful things are outside of this area.

Its nice when people try to post the truth. I don't think anyone is bashing or hate Naples. I think its just what they think. On the other hand you have people that will say anything to sell you realestate. Its not the truth its a sales line. Naples has some good points and bad points.

I wonder who was putting spam in this post? I don't think this is out of the closet.

I don't care how long a person has lived in Naples if it be 4 months or 24 yrs. like myself. They have every right to bash if they want. I'd take the blizzard of NW Ohio in 1979 as being a vacation. Because I knew it was going to be over and I'd see the beauty return in the spring. But to have to take all the crap around here day in day out Noooo! Well I'm sure all the, "Sidewalk Engineers" will sit around on their Wal-Mart lawn chairs with a Starbucks whatever and see more workers leave the area when Bayshore Club Apartments come down. Thats alright I'm just around the corner. Can't wait.

Geesh already! Does everything you say about Naples have to be negative? I'm not claiming Naples is perfect (I don't particularly care for it), but can someone share a positive experience without being knocked down? Also, from what I observed, aren't most people in Naples (well the ones born in the US atleast) originally from up north anyways?

Personally I can't believe this post is still going. The OP never stated why she was leaving...job or area disappointment and never stated whether she was leaving Florida all together. I have never lived or even visited Naples. But I knew it was expensive even when real estate used to be more reasonable in Florida. From what I have learned Naples is a beautiful area to live....if you can afford it. I think that is the biggest problem with people who relocate....the don't actually do the math and then come down and find that they cannot afford to live in the area they chose. Now the people I really feel sorry for are those who lived in Florida for years and can no longer afford to live. But for those who come to Florida for a few months and hate the cost, heat, traffic, etc. I am sorry but do the homework and know what lies ahead. You can't prepare for everything, but at least you have to realize a little about what you are getting yourself in for.
