I have been living in Naples for 14 years. and i cant blame anyone for wanting to leave. Naples is perfect for the retired or the vacation. It has often been called deaths waiting room. harsh but true. it is very hard to make a living here. and for anyone under 40 you will die of bordem if the old people dont run you over first!

I've never been to Naples but I've always wanted to visit, or at least I thought I did. Now I'm not so sure. If it's that bad for the locals could it be that much better for the tourists? This thread is a little depressing and a lot confusing. What about all of those slick magazine covers I see at the bookstore? Is it all a sham?

Nancy, it was so great to hear from you again. I had watched your story from the beginning. I'm just glad you're happy where you're at now. Waiting for part 2.

Thank you for checking in.
Naples, and southwest Florida, has a "nouveau riche" mentality. You kind of feel like you are dealing with people that have hired a designer but really want to hang up the "Velvet Elvis." Pretty creepy. Museums, symphonies, a sense of community, or children are not important to them. They are coming there to make a point, because they were laughed at elsewhere, or they are coming there to die, and no one liked them where they lived before, and they just don't care, anymore. Anyone, worth anything, or wants to raise a child, or both, would not stay there. It is a place where, someone has new-found money, but never learned manners, resides. |

My boyfriend spent most of his childhood in Naples and was very happy to move up to Boston, MA and live with me three years ago. He lamented the lack of culture down there. And in the last three years, we've been back down to Naples for several wedding and family gatherings. There is a lot of construction going on. So every time we visit, more homes, more shopping centers and a lot more traffic to deal with. Yuck.
I have friends that moved from Wellesley to Boca Raton at the insistence of the wife. Big mistake. And their kids hated the schools down there. Plus it's so bloody hot in the summer, that they all come up and live with their NJ relatives instead. I don't get how many Florida people will buy a beautiful house within a gated community and then knock it down and build a bigger house on top of it. It's as if they don't want to have a yard. And every house has a swimming pool, but I never see anyone swimming in them. lol |

Naples is tourist, snowbird, rich retiree oriented. There are a lot of nice family oriented communities throughout the STATE of New Jersey.

For our family, NJ is as bad as you can get and S. FL is a good as you can get. But each person likes what they like. |
