Currently living in Miami-Dade County. I would like to visit areas in north-central or northern Florida. I enjoy history, nature, local food, wildlife. Any suggestions as to interesting places to visit?

Definitely include St Augustine if you haven't been before. The holidays are also a great time to check it out with the Night of Lights up through January 31st.

St. Augustine....hands down. Great town with lots of history. If the weather is good check out for free the ferry trip to the Fort Matanzas National Monument at Matanzas Inlet. It is south of St. Augustine on A1A.

I'm really looking for small, little-known places for suggestions.....interesting, off the beaten track places. Any ideas?

Lots of picturesque, stuck in time, villages in the Gainesville-Ocala area like Micanopy, McIntosh, Evinston( funky old general store and post office), High Springs, etc.

Rolling hills and horse farms in NW Marion county. Fun to explore the county back roads in this area

The Dudley Farm Historic Park between Gainesville and Newberry is kinda cool too.

Olustee battlefield in North FL. The area around Mt Dora/Clermont/Tavares is interesting if you have never been up that way.
