I have been trying to sell my home in Sarasota for 6 months. It is priced below bank appraisal...I am not going to make any money on it. The only reason I am selling is because of the insurance and taxes.
I have lived in Florida most of my life, now I just can't wait to leave.

That is the same reason you won' be able to sell it. The next owner doesn't want to pay them any more then you do.

If you buy on either coast, expect high cost for insurance; if you can get any. My understanding is that insurance companies are finding anyway possible not to pay claims. State farm has now opt out in giving home insurance for Florida. This should tell you something...YES.

See about getting a hurricane mitigation inspection (Order a hurricane mitigation inspection - Save on insurance) which may help reduce your yearly premiums without having to change your deductible.

Default no insurance

Of course one option is build a hurricane proof house and pay nothing for insurance (only liability). Some options:
Domes International
Domes from American Ingenuity
Monolithic Dome Institute
Dome of a Home

Unless you're paying for the whole home out of your pocket with no mortgage you can't get away with no insurance. Banks require it even if the home has proved itself to be safer than traditional construction.
