BTW...we are not even required to hold flood insurance where i live (near Viera, but still technically Melbourne)! If you are West of US1 and in a 'higher' area this is possible. However, lots of areas do require flood insurance so be careful where you choose. Even when Tropical Storm Faye dumped all that water on Brevard last year, we sat high and dry with no flooding at all!! Our insurance is very reasonable and lower than a lot of Suntree communities. You can check out Capron Ridge if you are interested..that is my community and there are a lot of homes for sale (at great prices!) in my area. We live in a JerJef home and are VERY happy with it!!! The semi-custom builders are great and less 'cookie cutter' than most!

There were a number of robberies as well. This is a "supposedly" upperclass beachside gated community. PLEASE. We also had cops coming all the time because some of the kids would drive down the streets at 80 miles per hr. It was a 25 mile zone. Also plenty of drug busts. Because of continuously having to evacuate I then moved to W. Melbourne. Also a development but not gated. Again numerous robberies, etc.

In April of 2007 I moved to NW Palm Bay....Have forgotten to lock my front door....GEE WHIZ NO PROBLEMS...Have left my garage door open at night......GEE WHIZ NO PROBLEMS. By the way to anyone who cares, the home values have gone done in Viera/Suntree and Melbourne Village as well. Viera/Suntree is extremely congested, talk about roadways in Palm Bay, they are being widened, etc. Also a new outdoor shopping center comparable to The Avenues in Viera.... with the same stores ....... is being constructed on Palm Bay Road. Traffic in Viera/Suntree is overwhelming and will get even worse as they continue building. Check your facts before you make comments.

Rogcol,

I hate to sound harsh, but it sounds like you a) got stuck in a bad economy and b) made some poor choices as far as housing & mortgage. This could have happened to you anywhere. I'm sorry about the situation you are in, a lot of us are in similar or worse situations, but your hardships have absolutely nothing to do with the city of Palm Bay itself.

I have a brother and sister-in-law who live in the southwest corner of Palm Bay south of Jupiter and off of DeGroot. We visited this winter and found the area very attractive--nice homes with sizeable lots. Seemed very quiet. We're thinking of re-locating there.
